Fact #1: You are what you eat. Rule #1: Take care of your skin.

No matter how many expensive eye creams you splurge on, well-known moisturizers you test or deep cleansers you try, everything goes back to what you’re eating. It’s not a myth, your face is a reflection of the good and bad food entering your system. For example, eating fried food, milk or white chocolate, or spicy food excessively leaves a little souvenir on your face: breakouts. Although I went through Roaccutane (or Accutane) in the past to treat my acne, a few uninvited pimples appear every once in a while.
I’ve been “playing around” with healthy and beneficial food to see how my skin is changing overtime. I’ve learnt and discovered what works best for me and what I like best when it comes to personal preferences.
Drinking water is indispensable, I don’t understand people who don’t like drinking water. You’re going to die of dehydration – just saying. It has many benefits when it comes to body fluids, controlling calories, etc; but what interests me today is its hydration power. It will keep your skin looking younger by preventing it from hydrating and ageing.
Detox water is the latest trend. I don’t care how mainstream it is, it’s good for you. Just like normal water, it has many benefits. Ever since I started drinking detox water, my energy went up, my skin got clearer and smoother, my hair got healthier and my whole body felt clean. They say that detox water is a great fat-burner and treatment for acne too. I like to add in my cold water a few lemon slices (helps flush out toxins + contains Vitamin C) and mint leaves and, sometimes, strawberries and ginger. This will not only make you healthier, but it will make your skin glow (FYI natural glowing skin is the latest beauty trend). You can find many recipes online depending on what you like.
Talking about glow, carrots tend to give a more yellow complexion. According to researches, this complexion is a sign of being healthy. Ladies, go wild and buy a lifetime supply of carrots!
You can underestimate ginger as much as you want, but it’s a lifesaver. It’s a perfect remedy for acne, scars, ageing, burns and blemishes. It can also be used in homemade masks by mixing it with honey and lemon juice. This will nourish and soften your skin.
This is also the case with oranges. It rejuvenates dull skin by providing a lot of radiance. It acts as a great toner, blackhead remover, and skin whitener; it is also a treatment for acne, blemishes, dark-spots and wrinkles.
There are two other important anti-oxidants that I love. Firstly, we have berries. If I was stuck on a desert island and had the chance to pick just one type of food, it would definitely be berries! I love them! They taste great and they’re great for your skin. Also, green tea acts as a anti-ageing treatment by slowing down the ongoing signs of ageing. I started by hating green tea until I found green tea with flavours such as earl grey or mint.
Too much information to process, isn’t it? There are a lot more things I can mention such as almonds, dates, or avocado, but these products are my go-to natural products.
