Makeup : Review of Soft And Gentle by MAC

March 4, 2013

An endless number of beauty bloggers talked about this famous highlighter. An endless number of posts and videos have been put up on the Internet. I’m sure one more post won’t hurt…

When I posted my january favorites, some of you asked me if Soft And Gentle was too shimmery. The answer was “yes, but…”. I am the last person on earth who enjoys shimmer. I don’t do chunky ugly shimmer and glitter. But sometimes, shimmer can look quite good.

This Mineralize Skinfinish might look super shimmery in the pan and in swatches but when applied on the cheekbones, it gives a very nice radiance and glow to the skin.

It looks so pretty in the pan!

Now, if you are like me and can’t bare the idea of having shiny stuff on your face making you feel like a disco ball, here are a few tips to avoid that feeling:

  1. A little goes a long way! You only need a tiny bit of product with this!
  2. Don’t use a shimmery blush or a shimmery bronzer with this highlighter.
  3. Use the perfect brush to apply it. I find that this one does the job perfectly.
  4. Start by dusting it lightly over your cheekbones, then add more product if you want to build it up.

My friend didn’t look very convinced when I told her that Soft and Gentle was awesome until she noticed how lovely its effect was!

It’s the kind of product that creates controversy. But, you have to try it before saying you hate it.
Have you ever tried this before? Thoughts?

I have not tried soft and gentle so far-I always look at it at the counter, swatch it and decide it is too shimmery for my taste. I never wear shimmery blush or bronzer but I might try it now..I am sure I will find someone to take it off my hands if I end up not liking it 😉

Before buying, ask a makeup artist at the counter to apply lightly on a cheekbone and heavily on the other. Then compare both applications when you get home.

I’m not a massive fan of glitter either (unless it’s on nails!) but I can see how this would look great on cheekbones – especially if you have a bit of a tan. Also maybe nice on decolletage and collar bone on a night out.

I agree, it would look so nice on decolletage!

Went to buy this last weekend and the counter didn’t have it 🙁 Ended up purchasing something far more expensive and totally splurgey but hopefully it’ll satisfy my want to buy this!
