Makeup Tutorial : My simple, easy and fast everyday look

February 15, 2013

This is not the typical makeup tutorial that you would find on Youtube or on blogs with a demonstration for every single step. It is so simple and easy that I can do it with my eyes closed! This is the type of look that takes you no more than 10 minutes to do it.
Now, you’ve obviously seen all of these products on the blog already as they are my go-to products.

Before you flip out and start asking yourself how on earth is this an simple look with that amount of products?? Allow me to introduce you to the art of alternating. I always try to alternate the look by using different eyeshadows or different mascaras. I know, it isn’t going to make a huge difference for whoever’s looking at me… But I do it to avoid boring myself with a mechanical routine.

Face

With my fingers, I start by applying a layer of Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer  all over my face and MAC’s sudio finish concealer under my eyes, around my nose and on unwanted blemishes. Then I powder my face with the Stay Matte by Rimmel using a F30 brush by Sigma.

Eyes

Wether I’m wearing eyeshadow or not, I always have UD’s Primer Potion on my lids to avoid creasing. Over the primer, I apply only one color of eyeshadow all over the lid. I always alternate between Brule and All That Glitters, both by MAC. I love using the E55 for this step. If I want to add a bit of drama, this brown gel liner from Maybelline does the job! Finish off with a good coat of mascara. Again, I alternate between The Falsies Drama and One by One, both by Maybelline, which I accidentally forgot to show in the picture above.

Cheeks

Lately, I’ve been using Pinch O’ Peach everyday as it is part of my Project 10 Pan list (I want to finish it up so badly!!). My favorite blush brush is this one. And, of course, I can’t stay away from my new obsession: highlighting! I’ve been attached to Soft and Gentle by MAC and this highlighting brush by Sigma ever since I bought them.

Lips

I always try to keep it simple when it comes to lips. If it’s day time I would throw on simple lip balm like this one or I would use Brave by MAC. If it’s night time, I would go for something a bit darker like Plumful by MAC.

Et voila! Sounds complicated when you read it… But it really isn’t.

Monthly Favorites : My January Favorites!

February 5, 2013

Finally! I have found 10 minutes of my day to write about something I love and not about dead dictators in an essay.
My long absence is now over (I hope it won’t come back again any time soon) and I have a HUGE list of posts to share.
I’m trying to make this one as short as possible… I have to study for my economics exam tomorrow *I hate my life*

As you can clearly see, all of the products in the picture are from MAC. Surprise, surprise!

Unfortunately, I am one of those late ones who just bought the Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft and Gentle and Brule eyeshadow. And guess what? I’m loving them! Reviews will hopefully be up soon (not that there are enough of them on net, pff).

You’ve probably read some deep love for the lipsticks Plumful and Brave by MAC. Love, love, love!

And last but not least, Sigma F35 has been serving me well this month. Technically, it’s a highlighting brush but it’s great for applying blush as well as bronzer.
Speaking of brushes… I’ve never really showed any love for them on the blog. I guess I’ll be doing a post on that too. Thumbs up for inspiration!

Hope you’re all doing well πŸ™‚

Project 10 Pan : Am I getting rid of my makeup??

January 18, 2013

Me getting rid of my makeup? Please! This will only happen when sun and earth collide.

To be honest, I still don’t have an exorbitant amount of lipsticks like other beauty bloggers out there but I’m starting to feel that I have more makeup than I need. So I thought: how to use up makeup without getting rid of it? Project 10 Pan was the key to all of my questions. Have you ever heard of it before?

Project 10 Pan is … a project. I believe you all got that already, haha! It has been on the net for quite some time now… Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose 10 products.
  2. Hit pan or finish up all of the products.
  3. You are not allowed to buy any products until you have accomplished rule #2.

Now, because I’ve always been a bad player and a very good cheater when it comes to games, I chose a product that I’ve already hit pan on. So I’ll have to finish up this one completely. And, I kind of adjusted rule #2 by reducing the number of product to two. Well, this is how you satisfy a materialistic/shopaholic’s needs (moi!).

My goal isn’t to get rid of my “clutter”, as my mum would call it. Hell no. My goal is to finish up these babies to be able to buy new products and test new stuff. I guess this project “purifies” my makeup collection. Plus, it’s a great way to control your money and save up for the good stuff on the market. And most importantly, it reminds you how grateful you should be for having all of the makeup you own and being able to afford it (that last bit was kind of a clichΓ©, wasn’t it?).

I picked my products to form a “daily routine”. Of course, these aren’t the only products I use in that routine:

  1. Stay Matte by Rimmel
  2. Maybelline’s falsies drama mascara
  3. MAC’s tendertone in hush hush
  4. MAC’s fluidline in Blacktrack
  5. Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer
  6. Urban Decay Primer Potion
  7. MAC lipstick in Plumful
  8. MAC studio finish concealer
  9. Benefit’s Dandelion blush
  10. Pinch O’ Peach blush by MAC

Again, I didn’t choose these products because I don’t like them. Au contraire mon ami! I have a few favorites in this list. I’m doing Project 10 Pan to renew few products, it doesn’t matter wether I love them or not.

Did this post make sense to you? Because it did to me, in my head. Even I got lost during the process of writing it, haha!
I’ll keep you updated in two weeks to let you know what happens with these products πŸ˜‰

The Residence’s Favorites : Beauty products of 2012!

December 27, 2012

I can’t believe this year is coming to an end. Now that I’m looking back at everything that happened during 2012, I have to say I’m pretty proud of myself haha. Starting a blog, staying up-to-date about new products and trends, maintaining my relatively good grades in school, taking Accutane (or Roaccutane or Curacne, whatever you would call it), committing to extra curricular activities, establishing new friendships, and most importantly staying healthy and always being there for my family and friends. All of that ain’t easy and 2013 is going to be even more tough! Challenge accepted!

No, don’t worry, you’re not going to read about my achievements. Instead, be prepared to read about beauty products that rocked my socks during this whole entire year!

It wasn’t hard for me to choose the items for this post. My choice was quite obvious. For those of you who have been reading whatever nonsense I came up with ever since I started blogging (thank you!), you might have seen all of these products. If I haven’t reviewed them, then I probably mentioned them already.

Disclaimer: I’m a very materialistic person and proud. Don’t mind if I get a bit carried away.

1. Naked Palette by Urban Decay. Words cannot describe my love to this palette. It’s the best thing that happened to my life. Am I exaggerating? Maybe, a bit. Buttery smooth pigmented eyeshadows that are perfect for everyday and every occasion. What is more to ask?

2. Eyeshadow Primer Potion by Urban Decay. Yes, Urban Decay caught my heart this year. I have very oily skin and in a matter of two hours my eyeshadow tends to smudge without primer. Wether I’m wearing eyeshadow or not, I always have this on my eyes to avoid shiny lids. Love this stuff!

3. Pinch O’ Peach blush by MAC. No matter how many blushes I try I keep going back to this one, the first blush I ever bought. Pinch O’ Peach was featured in my first Monthly Favorites post that you can find by clicking here.

4. Lipcare lipblam by Beesline. Hands down THE best lip balm on planet earth. I think I raved enough about it here.

5. Love Lust blush by Tom Ford. I don’t know in which cocoon I’ve lived in for never trying out Tom Ford’s blushes. This stuff is freakin’ awesome. Literally. I’m looking forward to trying other Tom Ford products, if I can save up for them. Yes, I’m talking about their well known lipsticks that everyone raves about. Review here!

6. Tinted Moiturizer by Laura Mercier. I’ve been using this one religiously. My excuse for having it on my face everyday: it contains SPF. Full review about it here.

7. Stay Matte pressed powder by Rimmel. Last but not least, another amazing product that stayed in my handbag and that is reviewed here. Can’t live without this baby.

When I purchase products they are considered as new toys. When I start to love them, they become my babies and, together, we form a big happy family. That’s sad.

Hope you’ve all had a great year. I know I did πŸ™‚

Makeup : Review of Stay Matte pressed powder By Rimmel

October 23, 2012
I’ve been on a hunt for the perfect setting powder ever since summer ended. Between prices, packaging and quality, I finally ended up buying the Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder because of the hype about it all over the net.

When I was in the store, I just grabbed the closest color to my skin tone without swatching it. Then I asked the assistant which color suits me best and she said “004 Sandstorm”. It ended up the one I picked!

To be honest, when it comes to setting powders I don’t care much if I got a shade lighter or darker than my skin tone because it is very sheer.

There is absolutely no doubt that I hate the packaging! It’s very cheap and it doesn’t close very well. Normally I would go the pretty packaging alternative, but I thought “what the hell? I’ll give it a try”.
They say that the product contains natural minerals, which is supposed to be good for the skin.
After buying it, I noticed it had a sunblock scent to it and then I looked closer into the pan and realized small glitters. Uh-oh! You guys know how I always step away from glitter. How is it supposed to be “matte” powder when there’s glitter in the pan?!
Luckily, they are not noticeable when the powder is blended into the skin.
It does exactly what a promises: leaves a matte finish and controls the natural shine of my oily skin up to 5 hours.

I use my Sigma F30 brush that you can find here to apply the product all over my face, concentrating it on my T-zone mostly.
What I absolutely love about it is that you can keep on piling product on your face and it won’t look cake-y at all! It enhances the flawless finish.

This retails for AED 25! Which is quite cheap for a 14g product.

Overall, I’ve been loving this product and been using every single day even though I don’t have any makeup on. I just wished the packaging was a bit better and classier…

What setting powder do you use? Have you tried this one? Thoughts?
