I’m officially on Youtube! I have no idea what I’m doing. None. I’m really nervous, but happy. Does that make sense?
A messy bag post.. Why not? Besides old receipts, what’s in my bag is always changing up. Warning: I didn’t bother cleaning up my bag before taking pictures. Continue Reading…
So I’ve been hauling during the whole month and loving it. Zero guilt. I was planning on going wild at beauty stores to celebrate my birthday, the end of my exams and the end of high school. The damage was done progressively.
I haven’t been buying a lot of makeup for myself during the year. I’m just going to put it out there. A whole lot of reasons kept me away from spending my money on goodies like these: a) exams and school work kept me away from everything, b) I didn’t have any time on my hands or enough skin to try out new products and c) I would walk out of Sephora or Boots empty handed due to a lack of inspiration. There – I said it.
A lot of events happened during this month. My desk is filled with new products to try! Part of these events was Beauty World Middle East, the biggest beauty trade show in the region. I couldn’t bear the thought of missing out on it again. They basically present a lot of new brands on the market. I also saw well-known brands such as OPI, Orly, Dermalogica, etc. All of this rambling to say that I finally got the Seche Vite top coat! I’m so excited for probably the most boring product of this post. I have tried this already in different salons that use it as the top coat: amazing stuff.
I then payed a visit to MAC. It’s funny how I was so into MAC products a year or two ago. But now, it just got boring. Am I the only one who feels this way about the brand and its products? They have cool collaborations with celebrities and amazing collections. But the good stuff get sold out before hitting shelves. Don’t get me wrong, they do have great products that are part of my top favourites. Anyway, this visit was only for necessities. I had to get another Lingering eyebrow pencil and a brush cleanser. Okay, I lied. The brush cleanser is the most boring product of this haul.
Moving on to the fun stuff. I was craving a new bronzer and debating whether I should get the Marc Jacobs’ one which is pretty luxurious or the Clarins one that they release every year with their summer collection. My heart was telling me to go for the Summer Bronzing Compact from the Clarins Colours of Brazil collection (which was more expensive than the MJ bronzer). I could hear it call my name. The number of positive reviews this product got is cray! But more on that another time.
Last but not least are the last two purchases of the month: the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and the Translucent pressed setting powder. Believe it or not, none of my foundations match my skin perfectly. They’re either too light or too pink. Since my prom/graduation is coming, I rushed to Laura Mercier to get these two babies. I had my eye on them for so long. I initially wanted to get the loose version of the powder. But pressed powder is way more convenient and user friendly for me.
If you’re still reading this post that consists mostly of my boring life, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a great Tuesday!
What did you buy this month? Inspire me!
Product reviews? FOTD? NOTD? I have a lot of stuff to show you that I don’t even know what to blog about first and how to blog about it. And seeing how much stuff I have to get done, this poor blog might be left behind. Simone came up with a new concept that is absolutely genius: speed reviews.
I do love small and quick posts that give you just the information you need, especially when it comes to products reviews. Speed reviews are exactly what they claim to be: short and sweet.
Summer is finally back in Dubai. Yes, yes. Summer. There is no such thing as spring here. Bikinis, tank tops, shorts and beach dresses are already popped out and the makeup has gone lighter. But no matter how hot it gets, nothing will keep me from piling up layers of makeup.
The look that I went for today is nothing new, really. It’s actually very similar to what I do everyday for school but with more makeup. It’s like an upgraded version of the everyday look.
Fashion Forward kicked off the first day of the Eid. I was busy all day long so I had to make sure that my makeup lasted throughout the day and stayed flawless. As promised, here’s what my face looked like on day uno.
For my base, I used Benefit’s Stay Flawless primer topped with Sephora’s Light veil foundation. I popped my go-to concealer of the moment, Maybelline’s Dream Lumi Touch, on the under eye area and under the brow bone to brighten up and to do a bit of lifting. I decided to go for the sculpted look. So Bourjois’s Bronzing Primer was applied to the hallows of my cheeks and a generous amount of Benefit’s Highbeam was applied and blended on the cheekbones with this foundation brush and fingers. I then powdered the face with Rimmel’s Stay Matte by applying it only on the T-zone in order to keep the gorgeous healthy glow that the highlighter gave. I added a touch of rosiness to the cheeks with a hint of Lovecloud blush by MAC.
Moving on to the eyes. I started by priming them with Urban Decay’s primer potion – the usual. I dusted Sigma’s eyeshadow in the shade Act (my all-time favourite base to all my looks) and applied a bit of Urban Decay’s Dark Horse on the outer corner, which was later blended into the crease, and a wee bit on the lower lash line. Before finishing off the eyes with a good coat of Benefit’s They’re Real mascara, I went for eyeliner on the top lash line – a look that I’m sporting a lot lately. I used Revlon’s Colorstay liquid eye pen.
As for brows, I filled them with Revlon’s Brow Fantasy – a very handy brow product that I’ve been quite liking lately.
I kept the lips subtle with MAC’s Brave lipstick topped with a pretty old Chanel nude lipgloss. I know I need to throw it away because of its age. Don’t kill me. But it’s Chanel… It deserves to stay. I’m probably going to get sick and have weird skin problems because of this.
Before heading to Fashion Forward, I quickly accentuated my cheekbones by applying MAC’s Gingerly blush to the hallows of the cheeks and MAC’s Soft and Gentle msf to the cheekbones.
I did my hair at the hairdresser’s and asked him to go for the wavy look. Of course, the waves didn’t last a very long time.
Sorry for the poor iPhone quality picture, I barely had time to do a self-photoshoot for my Fashion Forward outfits and makeup looks.
I’ve been stuck on a daily makeup routine that makes people say “you look good today” when I never do, really. My skin has been going against me, at the moment. I’m not sure if I have oily skin or dry skin. And a lot breakouts are appearing due to sleepless nights and school stress (I know, it’s only the first month of school. I should stop complaining!).
Since my skin has been a bit bad, medium to full coverage foundation is indispensable. Today I used the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, which I blended with an F80 Sigma brush. Blemishes are, of course, covered by my beloved MAC Studio Finish concealer. As for under eye madness, it has been taken care of Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch concealer. A hint of Stay Matte on the T-zone to finish off the base.
And here come the awkward selfies…
I’ve discovered a very interesting fact about myself this year: I’m so not a morning person. Well, it’s nothing new. Mother dearest knew it all along but I was always in denial – typical Zein. Not being a morning person gives me about two minutes to do makeup and not be late. But I’m always late – again, typical Zein. So here’s how I would do my makeup everyday for school..
First, I discovered that the Benefit Stay Flawless primer is an instant skin enhancer. A wee bit of that all over the face is a good start to fool people into thinking I wake up looking pretty and flawless when it’s not really the case. Then a good concealer like MAC’s Studio Finish Concealer (been using this for ages!) should do the trick to hide whatever needs to be hidden. Both products don’t need a brush to be applied. Thumbs up for time savers!
To be honest, I’m fed up with that challenge! I haven’t spent a single fils (penny/cent in UAE) on makeup for about two months now. Crazy, I know.
Here’s on update on what’s happening right now…
The project took way more time than I expected it to take. However, I believe it has come to an end. Yes ladies, you read that right.
I couldn’t believe when I saw the little part of the pan in my Stay Matte powder! And by coincidence, the Maybelline mascara got empty. I never knew that a mascara could get empty! Actually, I never really finished mine. I throw them away after 3 or 4 months… Hygienic reasons.
Point is, I couldn’t believe it! I can’t really tell if I’m happy or sad about it. Weird.
But, I am glad to say that I have reached my goal. I’ve promised myself to hit pan/empty 2 or 3 products and I did it. Plus, I managed to not buy anything at all! I’m proud of myself, I suppose.
Now I don’t really know if I keep on going to finish up the challenge… But I’m letting myself splurge on a few products, that’s for sure! Someone’s getting broke.
Enjoy the rest of the week while I study for exams! 🙁
