FOTD : The Fashion Forward Face – Day 2

October 24, 2013

Fashion Forward day 2 or madness, as I would like to call it, was the busiest day out of the four days of fashion business. You can see what I wore and read about day 2 here. This makeup look is pretty exciting for me because I have dared to wear false lashes for the very first time!

I’ve kept the same base as day one – like I will during the four days – as well as lips. You can check them out here.

The real star of this FOTD are my eyes. After priming them, I used MAC products to create the look. 1. All That Glitters eyeshadow dusted all over the lid. 2. Satin top in the outer corner, blended into the crease and and the lower lash line. 3. A dot of Carbon eyeshadow in the outer v corner. 4. Brule eyeshadow on the brow bone. 5. Blacktrack fluidline on the top lash line (not pictured) . 6. Maybelline the Colossal mascara on top and lower lashes.

This is such a simple Tanya Burr look. For those of you who watch her videos, you’ll get what I mean πŸ˜‰

And to add the cherry on top, FALSIES! I know, I’m a makeup nerd and I’ve never worn false eyelashes before. Shame. I used the very well-known in the Middle East, Huda Beauty lashes in Giselle. These are so damn dramatic, it’s not even funny. As a falsies newbie, here’s what I thought about false lashes: 1. they felt a bit heavy at first. 2. I could actually see my lashes and felt like a butterfly, haha! You would understand once you try on heavy lashes for the first time, I guess. 3. They instantly give you a face lift. Magic! 4. They enhance the whole look and make you look and feel beautiful. Again, magic!

These lashes in particular are pretty long and full – and probably not the most natural looking lashes out there. But they would be great for an almost natural lash look by night.

Since they felt heavy at first, I had a huge headache from 4pm to 12pm as I got the flu on that day (sorry fashion forward people, you probably all got sick because of me). Note to self: do not wear false lashes when sick.

Have you ever tried false lashes before? Would love to know which ones are your favorite and what was your first impression and experience with falsies.

FOTD : The Fashion Forward Face – Day 1

October 20, 2013

Fashion Forward kicked off the first day of the Eid. I was busy all day long so I had to make sure that my makeup lasted throughout the day and stayed flawless. As promised, here’s what my face looked like on day uno.

For my base, I used Benefit’s Stay Flawless primer topped with Sephora’s Light veil foundation. I popped my go-to concealer of the moment, Maybelline’s Dream Lumi Touch, on the under eye area and under the brow bone to brighten up and to do a bit of lifting. I decided to go for the sculpted look. So Bourjois’s Bronzing Primer was applied to the hallows of my cheeks and a generous amount of Benefit’s Highbeam was applied and blended on the cheekbones with this foundation brush and fingers. I then powdered the face with Rimmel’s Stay Matte by applying it only on the T-zone in order to keep the gorgeous healthy glow that the highlighter gave. I added a touch of rosiness to the cheeks with a hint of Lovecloud blush by MAC.

Moving on to the eyes. I started by priming them with Urban Decay’s primer potion – the usual. I dusted Sigma’s eyeshadow in the shade Act (my all-time favourite base to all my looks) and applied a bit of Urban Decay’s Dark Horse on the outer corner, which was later blended into the crease, and a wee bit on the lower lash line. Before finishing off the eyes with a good coat of Benefit’s They’re Real mascara, I went for eyeliner on the top lash line – a look that I’m sporting a lot lately. I used Revlon’s Colorstay liquid eye pen.

As for brows, I filled them with Revlon’s Brow Fantasy – a very handy brow product that I’ve been quite liking lately.

I kept the lips subtle with MAC’s Brave lipstick topped with a pretty old Chanel nude lipgloss. I know I need to throw it away because of its age. Don’t kill me. But it’s Chanel… It deserves to stay. I’m probably going to get sick and have weird skin problems because of this.

Before heading to Fashion Forward, I quickly accentuated my cheekbones by applying MAC’s Gingerly blush to the hallows of the cheeks and MAC’s Soft and Gentle msf to the cheekbones.

I did my hair at the hairdresser’s and asked him to go for the wavy look. Of course, the waves didn’t last a very long time.

Sorry for the poor iPhone quality picture, I barely had time to do a self-photoshoot for my Fashion Forward outfits and makeup looks.

FOTD : The casual face with a bit of effort

October 5, 2013

I’ve been stuck on a daily makeup routine that makes people say “you look good today” when I never do, really. My skin has been going against me, at the moment. I’m not sure if I have oily skin or dry skin. And a lot breakouts are appearing due to sleepless nights and school stress (I know, it’s only the first month of school. I should stop complaining!).

Since my skin has been a bit bad, medium to full coverage foundation is indispensable. Today I used the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, which I blended with an F80 Sigma brush. Blemishes are, of course, covered by my beloved MAC Studio Finish concealer. As for under eye madness, it has been taken care of Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch concealer. A hint of Stay Matte on the T-zone to finish off the base.

Moving on to eyes. I applied Sigma’s eyeshadow base in Pose on the lids. I’ve been loving it lately! With the help of Revlon’s colorstay liquid eye pen, I added a bit of definition to the eyes. Everyone knows I love full and long lashes. So a good coat of mascara was a must! I found Mikyajy’s Sabaya Volume & Length mascara in my stash and it was enough to do a good job.
As for blush, I swiped along the hallows of my cheeks a bit of Gingerly by MAC. Do not go overboard with this, it’ll make you look like you’ve been hit by someone!
The star of the show today was this fantabulous gem that I raved about here. Jane Iredale’s LipColour in Renee is the perfect lipstick for the weekend. Not too bright and not too sheer, which won’t make you look bleh (if that makes sense).

And here come the awkward selfies…

I don’t do a lot of FOTDs because I’m too shy to post a zoomed in photo of my face. So let me know in the comments if you would like to see more of this kind of posts πŸ™‚
What do you have on your face today? Tried any of the products mentioned?

Monthly Favorites : My June Favorites!

July 1, 2013

I can’t believe that this month has come to an end. I’m not sure if I should be happy or sad about it. A lot has happen during these thirty days: a lot of exams, first part of the baccalaureate (one more year and I’m done!), my birthday, end of school year and beginning of summer sales! I can proudly say that during this month I have mastered the art of multitasking which unsurprisingly lead to several nervous breakdowns. Back to the topic… Behold, my june favorites!

I payed a visit to Bath & Body Works not long ago knowing they had a huge sale going on. I picked up a few candles to burn in my room and came across “Mahogany Teakwood” and Oh. My. God. it smells so good! Are you familiar with the Abercrombie & Fitch “Fierce” perfume? You know, the one they spray in the whole store and on their clothes. It smells exactly the same. It’s that heavenly masculine scent that makes me take a deep breath every time I smell it. I’m quite bad when it comes to describing scents. So if you have the chance to stop by a B&BW shop, make sure you have a whiff of that. You’ll fall in love.

Next is Boujois’s Regard Effect Metallise eyeliner in Vert Pepite. I’ve discovered this in my mother’s stash and thought why not use it? It gives a beautiful pop of color and an extra oomph to the makeup look. It glides on smoothly and the consistency is very luxurious and buttery. It’s a great change from the traditional neutral eye look.
Speaking of eyeliners. On casual days, I’ve been going out simply with black eyeliner on my top lash line and mascara. I’ve been using MAC’s Blacktrack a lot as it can last all day without melting away (it rimes, haha!). As for mascara, I’ve been reaching out for Mikyajy’s 3 in 1 mascara from the Sabaya line. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it but it’s doing the job. Another eye product is MAC’s All That Glitters, a very well loved eyeshadow. I’ve been sweeping this very lightly over the lids to add a bit of sheen to the look.
Bourjois released not long ago a summer collection that consists of all type of bronzers. And I was in desperate need of a new bronzer and something to mix up with my foundations as they were all too pale for me. I got the Bronzing Primer which answered all of my prayers. I was so damn impressed when I used it! It’s the softest cream product I’ve ever used. It blends beautifully and seamlessly with the natural skin tone. It leaves a very nice tanned and healthy look that allow you to step out of the house without any other makeup on. However, it doesn’t control oil very well. A good blot is needed. I like to use it on its own or mix it up with foundation for more coverage or apply it to the hollows of my cheeks for a bit of contour. Some compare it to the Chanel Tan de Soleil, which I’m dying to try out and which is tres expensive.
To avoid any interaction with the bronzy-ness, I’ve been using Benefit’s Dandelion blush which isn’t too overpowering. It adds the perfect touch of pink. I’ve been alternating with MAC’s Lovecloud a lot. There’s something about summer that makes me love this blush. I remember adding it to last year’s summer favorites. I believe it was part of my july favorites?
I’ve shown a lot of compassion towards this next item but I feel that I haven’t expressed much love for it on the blog. The Sigma F35 brush is officially my all-time favorite brush out there! It can be used for cream or powder products, highlighters, bronzers, blush, setting powders, blending concealers… The list can go on and on if you really think of it. This gem has served me so well ever since I bought it. Definitely a must for a starters kit!
Last but not least is the newest member of the makeup family. Please put your hands together for Bourjois’s Healthy Mix Serum! My best friend came back from London and kindly got me this foundation which I was craving. Luckily, the shade turned out to be the perfect one. Words cannot describe how much I love this product. It blends and applies so smoothly and luxuriously. It leaves a flawless dewy finish. What’s not to love?
So this post turned out to be longer that I thought it would. A lot of products caught my heart, specially the Bourjois ones. This brand has reached the top of my favorites list. I’m definitely going back for more.
What are you favorites this month? Tried any of the products mentioned?

Makeup Tutorial : My simple, easy and fast everyday look

February 15, 2013

This is not the typical makeup tutorial that you would find on Youtube or on blogs with a demonstration for every single step. It is so simple and easy that I can do it with my eyes closed! This is the type of look that takes you no more than 10 minutes to do it.
Now, you’ve obviously seen all of these products on the blog already as they are my go-to products.

Before you flip out and start asking yourself how on earth is this an simple look with that amount of products?? Allow me to introduce you to the art of alternating. I always try to alternate the look by using different eyeshadows or different mascaras. I know, it isn’t going to make a huge difference for whoever’s looking at me… But I do it to avoid boring myself with a mechanical routine.

Face

With my fingers, I start by applying a layer of Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer  all over my face and MAC’s sudio finish concealer under my eyes, around my nose and on unwanted blemishes. Then I powder my face with the Stay Matte by Rimmel using a F30 brush by Sigma.

Eyes

Wether I’m wearing eyeshadow or not, I always have UD’s Primer Potion on my lids to avoid creasing. Over the primer, I apply only one color of eyeshadow all over the lid. I always alternate between Brule and All That Glitters, both by MAC. I love using the E55 for this step. If I want to add a bit of drama, this brown gel liner from Maybelline does the job! Finish off with a good coat of mascara. Again, I alternate between The Falsies Drama and One by One, both by Maybelline, which I accidentally forgot to show in the picture above.

Cheeks

Lately, I’ve been using Pinch O’ Peach everyday as it is part of my Project 10 Pan list (I want to finish it up so badly!!). My favorite blush brush is this one. And, of course, I can’t stay away from my new obsession: highlighting! I’ve been attached to Soft and Gentle by MAC and this highlighting brush by Sigma ever since I bought them.

Lips

I always try to keep it simple when it comes to lips. If it’s day time I would throw on simple lip balm like this one or I would use Brave by MAC. If it’s night time, I would go for something a bit darker like Plumful by MAC.

Et voila! Sounds complicated when you read it… But it really isn’t.

You can get Sigma products here with this code BASE2013 to get 10% OFF on your entire order.

Project 10 Pan : Am I getting rid of my makeup??

January 18, 2013

Me getting rid of my makeup? Please! This will only happen when sun and earth collide.

To be honest, I still don’t have an exorbitant amount of lipsticks like other beauty bloggers out there but I’m starting to feel that I have more makeup than I need. So I thought: how to use up makeup without getting rid of it? Project 10 Pan was the key to all of my questions. Have you ever heard of it before?

Project 10 Pan is … a project. I believe you all got that already, haha! It has been on the net for quite some time now… Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose 10 products.
  2. Hit pan or finish up all of the products.
  3. You are not allowed to buy any products until you have accomplished rule #2.

Now, because I’ve always been a bad player and a very good cheater when it comes to games, I chose a product that I’ve already hit pan on. So I’ll have to finish up this one completely. And, I kind of adjusted rule #2 by reducing the number of product to two. Well, this is how you satisfy a materialistic/shopaholic’s needs (moi!).

My goal isn’t to get rid of my “clutter”, as my mum would call it. Hell no. My goal is to finish up these babies to be able to buy new products and test new stuff. I guess this project “purifies” my makeup collection. Plus, it’s a great way to control your money and save up for the good stuff on the market. And most importantly, it reminds you how grateful you should be for having all of the makeup you own and being able to afford it (that last bit was kind of a clichΓ©, wasn’t it?).

I picked my products to form a “daily routine”. Of course, these aren’t the only products I use in that routine:

  1. Stay Matte by Rimmel
  2. Maybelline’s falsies drama mascara
  3. MAC’s tendertone in hush hush
  4. MAC’s fluidline in Blacktrack
  5. Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer
  6. Urban Decay Primer Potion
  7. MAC lipstick in Plumful
  8. MAC studio finish concealer
  9. Benefit’s Dandelion blush
  10. Pinch O’ Peach blush by MAC

Again, I didn’t choose these products because I don’t like them. Au contraire mon ami! I have a few favorites in this list. I’m doing Project 10 Pan to renew few products, it doesn’t matter wether I love them or not.

Did this post make sense to you? Because it did to me, in my head. Even I got lost during the process of writing it, haha!
I’ll keep you updated in two weeks to let you know what happens with these products πŸ˜‰

Monthly favorites : My August Favorites!

September 2, 2012

August has come to an end. Summer is over and school is starting. Perfect. Why did I just remind myself about that?
Anyway… It’s time for a monthly favorites. This time I’m trying to keep the post short and simple for you to read and not long and boring.

As I didn’t use a bunch of products this summer, only five products are on my list and you’ve probably already seen most of them on the blog.

I’m going to start off with the lip balm that has never left my purse for weeks now. Yes, I’m talking about the Beesline lip balm. Lets just say it’s a miracle worker. I did a review about it, so click here to check it out.

Of course, you’ve all seen and heard about the famous Revlon lip butters. I even reviewed one here and it was in my previous monthly favorites. I loved it so much that I actually went back and grabbed the color Peach Parfait which is a peachy color. Duh. with a flecks of gold shimmer. Normally, I would escape from shimmer but this actually looks cool. Because of lighting issues, the tube appears orange but in reality it has a coral-y color.

Again, this is another product that I reviewed lately and I’m absolutely in LOVE with it! It’s the Maybelline gel eye liner. I have to say, I think I’m starting to love it a bit more than MAC’s fluidline. But I’m in denial. Click here to know more about it.

Moving on to mascaras. Products you’ve never seen before on the blog, a bit more interesting. As you can see in the picture above, I’ve been enjoying two different mascaras: Maybelline’s Falsies volum’ Express in Black Drama and Dior’s Diorshow Iconic.

The Maybelline one gave me a bit of length and lots of volume! Plus, my lashes were super black! They really looked like falsies with this mascara. And the wand is curved so they looked a bit curly. Two thumbs up for Maybelline.

As for the Dior one, I’m only going to tell you that I enjoy using it on my lower lashes. You’ll have to wait if you want to know more about it. A review is coming up soon, stay tuned πŸ˜‰

So much for a short and simple post… Oh well, you know what they say: old habits die hard.

Makeup : Review of Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner by Maybelline

August 29, 2012

If you’ve followed me from the beginning of my “blogging life”, you might know that I’ve been wanting to try this for quite some time now. Yes, I’m talking about the famous gel eyeliner with a freakishly huge name by Maybelline.
Everyone in the beauty world rambled about it and compared it to Bobbi Brown’s best-selling gel eyeliner. So I decided to purchase the cheaper alternative, just to give it a try and compare it to my beloved Blacktrack Fluidline by MAC.

The color I got is 02 Brown. I didn’t want to get the black color because I already own a this shade of gel liner and because they only had the shade “black and gold” at Boots. I was searching for a simple color, without any shimmer or glitter in it. So the color I picked up is nothing unique and speacial.

The packaging is super simple, nothing extravagant, and very light compared to the fluidlines. It came with an eyeliner brush which can be useful to apply eyeshadow on the lower lashline. And I bet it would be a great lip brush too! Plus, it has a small cap to it in order to protect the bristles. Great for traveling!

Its application is super smooth! To be honest, I still haven’t tried it on my eyes. However, it was easy to swatch it on my arm because it doesn’t dry out quickly unlike the fluidines. So you can actually have the chance to smudge your eyeliner if you feel like it or just apply it as a base for your eyeshadow if you’re going for a brown smokey eye.

The formulation is, of course, waterproof and smudge proof. Tried and tested! But I had to wait a minute or two for it to dry completely.

As I said earlier, I wanted a color that I didn’t own and a color without any shimmer or glitter. Once I swatched it on my arm, I’ve noticed this flecks of gold or bronze shimmer to it. Not what I expected, but it actually looks pretty cool! It’s hardly noticeable and it will be even less with eyeshadow.
As, you can see in the swatches below, it is VERY pigmented. I’ve hardly used any product!

Now, I couldn’t take a picture with the perfect colors. But just to give you an idea, it’s a chocolate-y brown color.

Without flash
With flash

Smudged with finger
Applied with brush that came with it

To be honest, I’m proud of myself for buying this gel liner! I really am! The formula is great, I love the color and the brush is pretty amazing too!
I have to say, it’s quite impressive for a drugstore product at a reasonably cheap price… Two thumbs up for Maybelline!
In Dubai, you can get it at Boots for only AED 42. It’s also available in different shades.

Have you tried this gel eyeliner? What are your thoughts about it? Is it worth trying the Bobbi Brown one? Leave your answers in the comment bellow

Monthly favorites : My May favorites!

June 1, 2012

Hi everyone!

It’s the 1st of June today, which means that the month of May has past. This calls for a monthly favorites!!
This is a new series of posts that I’m introducing to the blog. At the end of each month, I’ll be posting the go-to items that I’ve loved and used. It includes makeup, skincare, haircare, clothes, shoes, accessories… I’ll do a quick review of every product to not make this post super long and boring!

This month I have a lot of Sigma favs and MAC favs!

I’m going to start off with skincare. I’ve been using this for while now and I’m almost out of it!! It’s the Sebium Mat by Bioderma.

They call it “anti-shine fluid”, I call it “miracle worker”! It moisturizes your face and matifies it. Now that summer is here in Dubai, my T-zone is becoming oilier. With a normal moisturizer, my skin tends to look shiny throughout the day. With this, my skin isn’t completely matte as it promises, but it has this perfect glow for summer. Now, if you have dry skin I wouldn’t recommend Sebium Mat for you. However, if you have combination or oily skin you might like it! It’s really awesome!
Moving on to makeup base! I’m really enjoying the Studio Fix Fluid by MAC.
This foundation has a matte finish and SPF 15 (the SPF you need daily) with medium to full coverage. I still haven’t found the perfect way to apply it, but when I do I’ll do a foundation routine. I like that it’s a very light-weight foundation although it has a medium to full coverage. Most foundations with as much coverage are quite heavy. When I wear this foundation, I don’t feel like I have any makeup on! It holds up up to eight hours (tried and tested!) but it isn’t waterproof. What I don’t like about it is that it has a really bad smell and that you have to buy the pump separately, but I don’t mind. Again, I don’t recommend this for people with dry skin.

On to concealer! I loved the Studio Finish Concealer by MAC.

This concealer is really strong! It has full coverage, it’s long-wearing, it’s smooth, it’s water-resistant, it has SPF 35. What’s better than that?! Plus, it’s great for all skin types! I like using it for my dark circles as well as my face where I have blemishes or breakouts.

I like applying it with the P80 Precision flat brush by Sigma.

This brush is great for concealer and for hiding unwanted blemishes! It gives a flawless finish. I really like it! I also like applying liquid highlighter onto my cheekbones with it.

For my eyes, I’m really loving the Sigma eyeshadows! I have used one in particular in the Bare palette.

Now, this isn’t the Bare palette. If you’re familiar with Sigma, you may know that they send you a free gift if you spend $30 or more (so cool!!). This sample palette was the free gift sent to me when I purchased my brushes. It contains three samples of an eyeshadow of each palette they’ve got (Bare, Flare and Dare).
Lately, I’ve been applying just one eyeshadow color all over the lid to go to school. I’ve been using this color in the middle, “Act” from the Bare palette. I love it! It’s a bronzy color that is wearable everywhere you go! I like the colors that came in the sample palette, but not for everyday. You can find the three palettes by clicking here
Now that we’re in the eyeshadow talk, the perfect eyeshadow brush is the E55 Eye shading brush by Sigma.
This brush is great for patting a color all over your lid and up to your crease! It’s my go-to eyeshadow brush! It’s also amazing for highlighting your brow bone!
The next eye product is an eyeliner! It’s the Inglot Soft precision eyeliner in the shade 32.

Built up; with one stroke

It goes on smoothly onto the skin, it has a flex of shimmer to it and it’s quite pigmented. When I apply over my upper lash line, people think that it’s blue eyeshadow, lol! I like it on my lower waterline. I think that it looks less harsh than plain black eyeliner.
My favorite blush is definitely Pinch O’ Peach by MAC.

Not blended; Blended

In the pot it looks scary, once it’s on your face it looks gorgeous! This is a peach/pink blush with a sheertone finish. It’s suits literally every skin tone! It’s great for spring and summer. It gives natural pink cheeks.
Last but not least, the brush I like using with this blush is the F50 Duo fibre brush by Sigma.
I know, I know, I’m a Sigma freak! This brush is a multi-purpose brush! Very handy it you’re a beginner! You can use it for foundation, blush, bronzer and highlighter! It gives an airbrushed finish. You can use it with powder or liquid products. Love it!
You can now get 10% off your Sigma purchase! Use this coupon code STAR2012! Hurry up, the offer is valid until the 30th of June! Click here to enjoy your shopping! Spend more than $30 and get a free mini E25 blending brush!
What are you’re monthly favorites? Tell me in the comments bellow!

What do you think about : Maybelline Eye Studio

April 30, 2012

Hi everyone!

I need the help of my very loyal readers! What do you think of this?

If you know me and know what I have have in my makeup collection, you would know that I don’t own a black pencil liner.
Yes, you read that right, I do not have a traditional black pencil liner or a black liquid liner. I only own the MAC fluidline in Blacktrack (which I really love).
If you are familiar with MAC products, you would know that they are pretty expensive. I live in Dubai, MAC here is nowhere near being cheaper than in the USA! So to replace my only black gel liner, I thought of buying something a bit cheaper like the Maybelline Eye Studio.
Now, if you’ve tried it, I need you to give me your opinion about it!
If it’s cheap enough with a very good quality, I would go ahead and buy all four shades!
Did you ever try this product? If yes, what did you think about it? Do you recommend something else?
