Get pouty : Review of the Apocalips by Rimmel

May 15, 2013

I was at a Boots store the day when the Rimmel Apocalips launched in Dubai. I remember swatching them and loving them. But, of course, silly me didn’t get one until last week. The first time I tried this product, the only question that I was asking myself was: where have you been all my life?

If you don’t know what the Apocalips are, then here it goes: basically they are creamy pigmented lip lacquers that are long wearing and non sticky. They are very intense by providing a great pop of color accompanied by a very subtle glossy finish. The finish isn’t comparable to normal lipglosses such as MAC’s lipglasses or any other typical lipgloss that you would use. YSL have the same version of it which I’m sure you’ve all heard of. I believe they are the one who started this lip lacquer trend, if I’m not mistaken. Of course, the YSL aren’t very healthy for your wallet!

These lippies come in a slim tube with practical applicators that tend to scoop a generous amount of product. So be careful to not apply too much. They glide on very nicely and last for quite a while.

From the 8 shades that are available in Dubai, I chose the color Celestial. A mid-toned pink, kind of berry-ish. Typical me. Surprised? As always, I was so temped to buy a red shade such as Big Bang or Stellar. Since I’m a chicken and I don’t dare to step out of the house on a casual day with lipstick so bright that it can be seen from the other side of Sheikh Zayed Road, I decided to stick to what I use more often. Back to Celestial… Although it is extremely pigmented, it’s one of those shades that aren’t too in your face. From far away it looks like a pretty natural pink and pops the green out of my eyes. Hooray!

If you are a fan of pigmented lipsticks, long wearing lipsticks (pff, who isn’t?) and practical purse friendly products, then go buy these immediately. I have to say, a lip product has never impressed me in such a way. I will go back for more. Rimmel, I’ll take my hate off to you. Well done!

Have you tried the apocalips? Which shade did you pick up? Thoughts? Leave a comment below 🙂

Get pouty : Review of Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable

April 8, 2013

The Just Bitten Kissable launched in the States months ago and everyone raved about them. If you are a frequent Boots visitor, like I am, then you’ve probably seen these on the Revlon counters. Just Bitten Kissable have hit the stores a few weeks ago, I believe, and I was ALL over the place when I first got my hands on them.

These lip products look like Clinique’s Chubby Sticks and smell like peppermint. Love both. Liking the product already!

If you’ve never read or heard about the Just Bitten Kissable, it’s basically a lip balm and a lip stain that is supposed to moisturize your lips while keeping a long lasting color to them. However, not sure where the “Bitten” plays its part. Perhaps the deeper red shades have a “just bitten” effect to them?

The packaging is a very simple, twist as you use, “jumbo pencil”.

After trying it several times, I noticed that it tends to dry up the lips after a while. This happens once the lip balm disappears (as always), which is after 3 or 4 hours of wear, and only the stain is there (which is a good sign – long lasting color). If you have very dry or chapped lips, the trick is to keep a clear lip balm in your handbag at all times.

I got the shade Honey Douce 001, the type of shade that I would usually pick up, the kind that I just slap on and forget about it. The color is lovely and perfect for everyday! But I honestly don’t see why it’s called honey as it is a pretty natural, rose shade.

It’s a very nice product, don’t get me wrong, and with a bit of criticizing it somehow managed to reach my favorites list. Great stain (probably the best I’ve ever tried), not so great lip balm.

Have you tried the Just Bitten Kissable? Thoughts? Leave a comment below!

Get pouty : New favorite lip combo

April 3, 2013

Since the beginning of 2013 I haven’t been purchasing a lot of makeup. Lately, I’ve been walking out of beauty stores with empty hands and I’ve only been contemplating makeup (what I do best). Maybe it’s because nothing is eye catching these days? However when I walk into Boots, I look like a 3 year old child getting high on ice-cream (because of all the new releases!). And, again, I walk out with empty hands to avoid getting carried away and purchasing the whole store. Hence I’ve been rediscovering what was very much loved in the past. I managed to dig out two very well loved lippies that look lovely when combined.

I was all over the place when I knew that the Revlon lip butters came to Dubai last year. And getting my hands on them as fast as possible wasn’t easy because they were selling out so fast.

Combo; Cotton Candy; Peach Parfait

Cotton Candy and Peach Parfait are the two shades of the combo, both from the lip butter line. Each one of them is already “my lips but better” but in different tones. Together they make “my lips but EVEN better”. See what I did there? 😉 The result is a light pink/peach color, a bit pinkier and lighter than Brave by MAC. Lip butters are a bit sheer, so the two colors blend with my natural lip color. The effect is very nice and it adds up sophistication to the whole look. It’s definitely not a fun color or a bright color. On my lips, it reminds me a lot of the lipstick shade that Audrey Hepburn wears in Breakfast at Tiffany’s when she gets out the bullet from her bag and starts applying a light coral, almost nude, shade to her lips in the cab. Differences are the combo is a bit darker and it’s glossy.

This combo would look great with a very simple makeup look: winged black eyeliner, a bit of Melba blush by MAC or just bronzer and long full lashes that aren’t too black and dramatic.

What is your favorite lip combo? If you have been purchasing makeup from new releases, please leave a comment below saying what you bought. I’m clearly not inspired by what I see these days.

Get pouty : Review of Brave by MAC

January 12, 2013

I know, I know. You’ve probably had enough of all the reviews about lip products. But I can’t help it, I love my lippies.
I was dying of boredom and thought what better place for me to take refuge other than my blog? I had no idea whatsoever about what I was going to talk about until I thought of this new member in my cosmetics family.

A few weeks ago, I paid a visit to MAC along with a bag filled with empty products. Yes, I was “backing to MAC” for the first time!

For those who are not familiar with the “Back 2 MAC” program, it’s basically you return six empty containers from MAC in exchange with a free lipstick. I have to admit, the feeling when you get a lipstick for free is pretty awesome. It’s like christmas all over again. Such a child.

Of course, I raced to the MAC counter knowing which shade I was going to get: Brave.

Before starting the actual review, I just wanted to say that for the past couple of months I’ve been searching for the perfect shade of lipstick which I cannot describe, but the color is in my head. Unfortunately Brave wasn’t the one. But I loved it anyway.

On the website, MAC describes it as a “pink-beige with white pearl”. I am literally in love with this color! But, there is something quite curious about this shade: sometimes it looks dark and sometimes it looks a bit more bright. Weird, isn’t it? The “white pearl” is present, but unnoticeable. I’m serious. You would think it’s a “matte” finish if you haven’t read “satin” on the back of the tube. Anyway, the color is perfect for any kind of occasion.

MAC has a huge range of shades when it comes to lipsticks, some are amazing and yet others are a bit disappointing. Despite the fact that I wear that every time I go out and love it, I’m still not 100% convinced that Brave is THE lipstick to own. Now, don’t get me wrong, it glides on perfectly and the color is divine. However, after 3 hours if not less, the product tends to set on the lips and creates weird white stuff – which I feel ridiculous for not knowing the name of – on the outer-corner of the lower lip, along the line that connects both lips. Does that make any sense to you? I hope so. So I guess this is the only con.

Under sunlight

Truth is, I have been loving this one. Been wearing it for the past month or so. It’s great for everyday. As I said about this lipstick, I never really saw any videos or posts about it. It definitely needs a bit more hype. Don’t you think?

I hope this post didn’t bore as much as I am right now. I’m so unmotivated to do anything. Call me lazy bum!

Have you ever tried this color? What do you think? Did you go through the same problem as I did?

Get pouty : Review of Plumful by MAC

January 4, 2013

My first lipstick from MAC was not from the very well known “Myth/Angel/Hue” selection. It was actually, during my first visit to MAC, mother dearest who picked it up for me while my attention was caught by the pinks and corals. It wasn’t exactly what I was searching for back then, but finally decided to go with it as I knew that this wasn’t going to be my last visit to a MAC store (I assure you, it was not!).

Behold! A lipstick that is hardly mentioned in Youtube videos and beauty posts: Plumful.

**Before I get started, you have to know that my mum adores these shades of lipsticks (even though she hardly ever wears them..). She actually loved Rebel by MAC the minute she saw it.

You can see that I used quite a bit of it. I mean, it was my very first MAC lippy afterall. Huge event in my life! Haha

It’s a plum color.

Duh.

If you didn’t get that, please read it’s name again (sarcastic much?)

I’m sure you all know the MAC black bullet packaging. No need to get into details on that…

It has a lustre finish which I like. This is one of my favorites finishes from MAC’s lipsticks.
Before starting a powerful and deep relationship with this particular brand, I was used to sheer lipsticks like Chanel’s which were found in my mother’s makeup bag (mum, If you’re reading this, I swear I’m not the one who stole your sheer shimmery blue toned Chanel lipgloss when I was 4). So it was hard for me to adapt to pigmented lip products. HASHTAG story of my life…

Back to the point… As Plumful is part of the Lustre category, it can be a bit sheer unless you build it up. You end up with a beautiful, lovely plum color and a glossy finish (no dryness). I love it. Yes, it has been in my makeup drawer for several years and I still enjoy using it until today.

I believe that it would look lovely on all skin tones. Definitely a lipstick that deserves more attention and that is worth checking out next time you drop by a MAC counter.

Talk to you soon 🙂

What’s your favorite winter lipstick?

Get pouty : Review of Benefit’s Ultra Plush in Dandelion

December 2, 2012

Happy national day UAE! It’s been already 41 years! Do you guys have any special plans for today?

So today I’m reviewing the last item from the Benefit kit I got a while ago (finally!) It’s the Dandelion Utlra Plush.

The color of this gloss is supposed to correspond to the actual blush which I reviewed here. Well, to be honest, it’s more peachy than pinky.

I LOVED this gloss ever since I used it (note that I’m not a lipgloss girl). It’s moisturizing and zero stickiness! (++)

The gloss itself is a quite sheer so it can work with any lipstick or simply on its own. I’ve been literally using it every time I would go out with this lipstick. Since it’s a smaller version of the actual tube, I can easily toss it in my bag (yay for go-to products!)

However, few things disturbed me… Ultra Plush?? What the hell? Is it supposed to make my lips look fuller? Well, it didn’t. And I don’t do squeeze tubes (wand applicators ftw!). I just hate using them…

Whatevs, the color pretty 🙂

Can you tell how sheer it is?

This will definitely be repurchased, if I manage to get through its smaller version, of course… (Not gonna happen. I never managed to use up a whole tube of lipgloss)

Have you tried this gloss or any other from the same line? Leave a comment below with your thoughts 🙂

Get pouty : Review of Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Matte by Kate in 105

November 28, 2012
So we all know that Kate Moss has a Rimmel lipstick line and that not long ago she released new lipsticks with a matte finish. When I knew that they landed in Dubai (2 months ago) I immediately hopped on my feet and raced to Boots to check out the shades available.

I got the shade 105.

Now, what’s weird is that this color doesn’t exist on the Rimmel website, nor in Europe and USA … I started asking myself if it was an illegal copy of the lipsticks haha.

Unlike her previous collection, the packaging is red. And of course, there is still the famous “Kate” signature.
*Love the little crown on top of the cap!*
This pink/brown color contains unnoticeable gold shimmer. It leaves a matte finish, as it promises, and glides very smoothly on the lips. However, it doesn’t set like MAC’s matte lipsticks. Actually, the product applied on my lips moves very easily when I rub them together.
The only downside of it is that it doesn’t last a very long time..
Heavy swatch; Light swatch

I’ve been using this lipstick every time I go out with family and friends.
This lippy + a light colored lipgloss = my weekend lip combo!
Girls, make sure you keep this one in your handbag! You’ll need some major reapplying to do after a good lunch.
Happy Wednesday!
And here comes the ending question…
Have you tried these lipsticks? Thoughts? Do share 🙂

Blushed : Review of Posietint by Benefit

November 17, 2012

I’m sure you’re all familiar with Benefit’s famous Posietint. I tried it out a few times on my lips and cheeks and decided to review it.

The packaging is just like Highbeam’s and Benetint’s, it looks like a nail polish bottle. Even the applicator looks like a nail polish brush.

On the brush, Posietint looks a bit scary… It’s so bright! It feels more like gel when you try it on.
This bright pink can be used as a blush and as a lip stain (++). I love multi-purpose products!
To apply it, you need to brush 3 strokes of the product on the apple of your cheeks, then blend them towards your cheekbone.

I got disappointed when I swatched it… It’s way to sheer and it’s not even blendable. Once you apply it on your cheek you have to start blending it within less than a second or else it keeps a stain of where you’ve placed the product at first.
After blending, I realized that it was hardly noticeable (see picture below – blended version of the product). Not only it was very sheer, but patchy too. Pink patches of Posietint were all over my cheeks.
Plus, it emphasized my pores.

Then, I tried it on my lips. To be honest, it looks divine! However, it tends to dry up the lips.

As much as I hate writing bad reviews and as much as I love Benefit, I had to share this with you guys. Don’t waste your money on Posietint. Not worth it.
Or maybe I’m using it the wrong way…

I hope you’re all well 🙂

If you like this product and use it regularly, please leave a comment below and share how you enjoy using it. I hate having not used products in my collection!

Get pouty : An almost natural lip combo

October 6, 2012

Hello beauties!

Lately, I’ve discovered an almost natural lip combo! Why “almost”? Well, sometimes I find that it’s a bit too dark. However, I receive A LOT of compliments when I have it on.
The lipstick was featured in my September’s favorites. It’s the Cream In Your Coffee lipstick by MAC. I love to pair with MAC’s cremesheen glass in Deelight! Together, they give a lovely effect!

By the end of August, I had a huge family gathering and that day I wore this lip combo. Almost everyone told me that my lipstick looked great and natural, even though I thought it was dark when I saw myself in the mirror… But it actually isn’t when someone else sees it on you. Does it make sense?
I guess I’m kinda used to light pinks like MAC’s Angel.

Get pouty : Review of the Lip butter by Revlon

June 16, 2012

I finally got my hands on the Revlon Lip butter!! I’ve been waiting for these for so long! I’ve been using it for a week now, so you might have read about it in previous posts. I know I’m a bit late with this review compared to others, it’s actually because the lip butters only landed in Dubai last week!

I’ve never loved a lip product as much as this one!!
The packaging is really nice. It’s not bulky at all. And the top of the cover is transparent, so you can easily see the color of the lipstick.

As the name says it, it’s very buttery and goes on smoothly, it’s a lip butter, obviously! Lol! I love that it’s very hydrating and moisturizing! Plus, it’s super easy to apply!
It has a bit of a glossy finish to it, so you don’t need to apply lipgloss. And it’s not sticky at all!! Yay!
I chose the color Cotton Candy. It’s your lips, but better! It goes on a bit sheer comparing to the other colors, but not as sheer as a lip balm. It has pretty good pigmentation.
Cotton Candy has hardly noticeable gold shimmer to it that gives a bit of a glow to your lips. But I think that not all the shades have shimmer to them.

As you can see, it is sheer when you apply it lightly. However, I won’t say that it’s a lip balm or a lipstick. It’s between both… So the darker shades won’t be too ‘in your face’. They are more wearable colors for daily basis.

The down side of it is that it tends to finish up quickly as it is a “butter”. Product can easily be rubbed off the stick itself.

I’m using my lip butter literally every day! I fell in love with it! It stays in my purse all day long! You MUST try them! Try to get your hands on them as soon as possible! They are selling out really fast here in Dubai!

You can find them at Boots for AED 48. In the USA I believe it’s $4.

Did you try the Revlon lip butters? Which shade did you get? Or which shade do you have your eye on?
