Flawless : Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer

September 2, 2013

I’ve never had a hard time deciding wether I like a product or not until the 15-hour primer, Stay Flawless, from Benefit Cosmetics arrived at my door. Dubai’s freakishly hot weather and humidity along with my oily skin were enough for me to see if this primer would be able to fight against these obstacles.

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you would already know that you got a Benefit gal over here (me!). And because I love their Porefessional primer so much, I had very hight expectations when I first saw this primer release in the US months ago. At first glance, I noticed that its the type of product that would dry out a bit quickly (which explains the little white cap – very clever).

As you may have seen in the pictures, it’s in a stick form. Hence, application is directly from the stick onto the skin. Not very hygienic, I know… But as my friends would say to anything against my norms – yolo!

I must say, the immediate result was quite impressive. My skin really looked flawless. The type of flawless that would make you say “oh, I look pretty today”. Surprisingly, the primer reduced the appearance of blemishes and redness. It can be applied on its own with just a bit of concealer. And it makes the foundation a bit more matte as it sticks to the skin like a magnet. Thus, the increase of foundation coverage.

Now the question is… Did it last 15 hours? Unfortunately, not as long as it promises. I was a bit disappointed that my face started to appear oily after 5 hours, only. Blotting papers and powder must definitely be kept in the bag in case of emergencies. The product itself is actually quite portable and can be tossed in the handbag. I wonder if it can be reapplied over makeup during the day? I’ll try that and keep you posted 😉

If it wasn’t for the lasting power of the Stay Flawless primer, I would give a two thumbs to this product. I know that it doesn’t hold on my skin all day, but it won’t prevent me from using it!

Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer is available in at Sephora and Faces for 152 AED.

Have you tried this product? Thoughts?

Beauty tips : How to prep your skin before a special occasion

July 23, 2013

Waking up late, staying up until late hours, sunbathing and other summer habits make us forget about maintaing our skin in a good condition. I know that every time summer is here, I tend to forget about my skincare routine and end up with really bad skin. At that time of the year, you always want to look your best. You never know when you’ll have a party, dinner, family gatherings or other special occasions. Here are a few steps to follow a day before your event.

Now, first thing you need to know is that foundation and concealer won’t cover up much if they’re not applied to a good and clear canvas.

Step 1
Start by using a precleanse product like this one from Dermalogica. It will help remove any makeup left on the skin or any dirt.
Step 2
Cleanse your face with your favorite cleanser. I’ve been using Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel at the moment. Careful, don’t go for anything too drying.
Step 3
Exfoliate your skin by massaging it in gentle circular motions. Dermalogica’s Skin Prep Scrub is a thick facial scrub that I absolutely love! It removes dry skin and clears out the skin perfectly. If your skin is extremely oily, go for a toner right after this step. If it’s not, skip the toner.
Step 4
Spread a good layer of moisturizer on to your face. Make sure it’s not a mattifying moisturizer.
Step 5
Apply two or three drops of argan oil onto your face. It will nourish your skin. If you don’t have argan oil, then go for a hydrating serum.
After following these 5 steps, you might look a bit red because of the exfoliating. But I always follow this routine before a special occasion or an event and I wake up with an almost flawless face. The fact that you do this routine at night will let your skin rest from the cleansing and exfoliating and absorb all of the good oils that you applied at the end.
I hope this was helpful and I hope it will work you as much as it works on me!
What is your skincare routine before a special occasion? Have you tried this routine? Leave a comment below 🙂

Flawless : Review of Erase Paste by Benefit

May 7, 2013

I was going through my mom’s makeup and came across so many unused goodies that are still in perfect condition. I found several natural looking blushes and lovely bright eyeshadows. I decided to get my hands on Benefit’s Erase Paste, magic in a little pot that I’ve never used before.

This thick and creamy concealer has become a bit of an essential for me. The consistency is very different from what I’ve tried before. It really is a paste. When you touch the concealer, a small amount of the product sticks to your finger. Just like a toothpaste.

The only thing that bugs me is that the product is a bit of a pain when it comes to blending… I find it’s better to pat it on rather than sweeping it. I believe this concealer is only buildable if you keep the layers thin as it can cake up and settle in fine lines.

The product provides enough coverage for daily use. If you’re the type who loves full coverage concealers, you might want to skip this. It also has pink/salmon undertones making it a great corrector and highlighter by leaving a “YSL Touche Eclat” effect which is the main reason why I got attached to it.

I’ve been enjoying this concealer a lot lately by using it only on my dark circles. As it does a great job at highlighting, might want to avoid applying it on blemishes. You’ll end up looking like you have discoloration problems unless it matches perfectly your skin color.

Now, I don’t think that people with dry skin will enjoy this as much as people with normal to oily skin. If you have dry sin, the only way to make this concealer work is by moisturizing A LOT before applying it.

Mine is the the shade 2 medium. You can get Erase Paste at any Benefit counter at Sephora and Faces.

What’s your favorite concealer of the moment?
