November 24, 2015

DSC_1657

We’re always searching for that one foundation that offers the best coverage, the best finish, and the best lasting power. It’s that one foundation that you’ll wear every day even though you have three others that you once labelled “favorites” sitting there, staring at you on your vanity table. I might just have found that foundation.

Flawless : Bourjois’s 123 Perfect CC Cream concealer

March 25, 2014

I feel radiant, flawless, fresh, glowy..

Kidding. I’m in bed slowly dying, as we speak. A fever hit me hard this morning. But I’m sure hot tea and Panadol will do the job perfectly. Ever since the beginning of March, I’ve been put under pressure with exams, school work, staying up late and whatever comes with this lovely package. The usual. Can you just imagine how bad my dark circles are?

Luckily, Bourjois’s CC cream concealer came right on time into my life. Now, I’ve already said it previously: CC creams, BB creams.. It’s all the same to me. This CC concealer is part of the 123 Perfect range so it colour corrects by reducing fatigue, redness and dark spots. Loving the sound of it already!

It has a funny silicon tip that I’ve never seen on beauty products before – definitely not on concealers anyway.

It’s very lightweight, provides enough coverage for daily use, brightening, hydrating. And most importantly, it has a very natural/leaning towards dewy finish that I absolutely love. So basically, it makes you look fresh and awake.

I’ve been using this everyday because, well, I really need it which is something very sad to say judging from my age. Nevertheless, it does an excellent job at fooling people into thinking that I’m naturally radiant and flawless. Hashtag I woke up like this.

Flawless : Une’s Skin Ideal foundation

December 30, 2013

To continue my Une products saga, I decided to share with you another new product in my collection: Une’s Skin Ideal foundation. Now, I find that buying foundation is the hardest task when it comes to beauty – right after brush cleaning. It’s not easy to match the perfect colour to your complexion, to find the finish that you want depending on your skin type and getting the right amount of coverage.

Skin Ideal is a foundation that gives a youthful effect. It’s marketed for women with ageing skin. Une says that it’s a lightweight foundation and promises radiance. There are 5 shades available and I got the shade i05. I was a bit concerned at first as it looked really light in the bottle (I have light to medium skin, by the way). But it’s actually the right shade for medium skin.

It is definitely a light foundation without a lot of coverage. If you suffer from acne, I wouldn’t recommend this for you. It has a beautiful and flawless finish as it blends seamlessly into the skin. Don’t be afraid of how light it looks in the bottle. This foundation dries way darker than you skin tone. Like, way darker. However, when I apply it with a brush it has more coverage and ends up drying darker than when I apply it with fingers. Weird..

I see why this foundation is made for ageing skin. I enjoy using the most on good-skin days. Not the best foundation for covering up breakouts or acne scars.

I don’t love it. But I really like it.

Have you ever tried Skin Ideal? What is your favorite foundation?

Flawless : Maybelline’s Instant Anti-Age concealer

November 23, 2013

My best friend, Yasmine, went to the UK in June and got me the Maybelline Anti-Age concealer, not because I have ageing problems but because a lot of people in the US raved about this and I kept on talking about it. When I first got it, I was so excited to finally try it out as Tiffany from MakeupbyTiffanyd on Youtube said that it’s her holy grail concealer. However, I was a bit disappointed the first time I used it. Actually, I wasn’t impressed at all. I’ve had this in my stash for almost six month, and I didn’t really know what I thought about it until now.

The first problem I encountered was getting to use the product itself. It took about 10000 clicks to be able to use the first drop of concealer. The second problem is that concealer is absorbed by the little fluffy ball on top which prevents from “delivering” the amount that is dispensed. So even with four clicks I ask my self where did the product disappear? I didn’t feel that I was getting any until I realised that my concealer may have a mechanical problem with the fluffy ball. Hence, I kept it at the back of my drawer and forgot about it.
About a month ago, I decided to give it another go. It breaks my heart to see unused makeup. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. I don’t know what changed exactly in it over the months but I feel that I get more concealer out of it.
The formula can be compared to a liquid. It’s definitely not a creamy and heavy concealer. Au contraire, it’s designed for aged skin which makes it a very lightweight concealer. It enhances the skin by blending seamlessly and beautifully into it, better than any concealer I have tried. The coverage is light to medium, enough for everyday.
Now, what I don’t understand is why this one is called Instant Anti-age, and the one in the US is called Instant Anti-Age Rewind… I’m pretty sure there is a difference between the two of them because, judging from the videos, Tiffany’s concealer has more coverage than mine. I wonder if it’s because of the mechanical problem I have? Unfortunately, Maybelline’s Instant Anti-Age isn’t available in the UAE. But I’m sure it can be found online.

Flawless : Benefit’s Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer

September 2, 2013

I’ve never had a hard time deciding wether I like a product or not until the 15-hour primer, Stay Flawless, from Benefit Cosmetics arrived at my door. Dubai’s freakishly hot weather and humidity along with my oily skin were enough for me to see if this primer would be able to fight against these obstacles.

If you’ve read my blog for a while, you would already know that you got a Benefit gal over here (me!). And because I love their Porefessional primer so much, I had very hight expectations when I first saw this primer release in the US months ago. At first glance, I noticed that its the type of product that would dry out a bit quickly (which explains the little white cap – very clever).

As you may have seen in the pictures, it’s in a stick form. Hence, application is directly from the stick onto the skin. Not very hygienic, I know… But as my friends would say to anything against my norms – yolo!

I must say, the immediate result was quite impressive. My skin really looked flawless. The type of flawless that would make you say “oh, I look pretty today”. Surprisingly, the primer reduced the appearance of blemishes and redness. It can be applied on its own with just a bit of concealer. And it makes the foundation a bit more matte as it sticks to the skin like a magnet. Thus, the increase of foundation coverage.

Now the question is… Did it last 15 hours? Unfortunately, not as long as it promises. I was a bit disappointed that my face started to appear oily after 5 hours, only. Blotting papers and powder must definitely be kept in the bag in case of emergencies. The product itself is actually quite portable and can be tossed in the handbag. I wonder if it can be reapplied over makeup during the day? I’ll try that and keep you posted 😉

If it wasn’t for the lasting power of the Stay Flawless primer, I would give a two thumbs to this product. I know that it doesn’t hold on my skin all day, but it won’t prevent me from using it!

Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer is available in at Sephora and Faces for 152 AED.

Have you tried this product? Thoughts?

Beauty tips : How to prep your skin before a special occasion

July 23, 2013

Waking up late, staying up until late hours, sunbathing and other summer habits make us forget about maintaing our skin in a good condition. I know that every time summer is here, I tend to forget about my skincare routine and end up with really bad skin. At that time of the year, you always want to look your best. You never know when you’ll have a party, dinner, family gatherings or other special occasions. Here are a few steps to follow a day before your event.

Now, first thing you need to know is that foundation and concealer won’t cover up much if they’re not applied to a good and clear canvas.

Step 1
Start by using a precleanse product like this one from Dermalogica. It will help remove any makeup left on the skin or any dirt.
Step 2
Cleanse your face with your favorite cleanser. I’ve been using Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel at the moment. Careful, don’t go for anything too drying.
Step 3
Exfoliate your skin by massaging it in gentle circular motions. Dermalogica’s Skin Prep Scrub is a thick facial scrub that I absolutely love! It removes dry skin and clears out the skin perfectly. If your skin is extremely oily, go for a toner right after this step. If it’s not, skip the toner.
Step 4
Spread a good layer of moisturizer on to your face. Make sure it’s not a mattifying moisturizer.
Step 5
Apply two or three drops of argan oil onto your face. It will nourish your skin. If you don’t have argan oil, then go for a hydrating serum.
After following these 5 steps, you might look a bit red because of the exfoliating. But I always follow this routine before a special occasion or an event and I wake up with an almost flawless face. The fact that you do this routine at night will let your skin rest from the cleansing and exfoliating and absorb all of the good oils that you applied at the end.
I hope this was helpful and I hope it will work you as much as it works on me!
