February’s Glambox

March 1, 2014

Have you ever heard of the brand Bliss? I haven’t before it landed in Dubai about a year ago. Ever since, I’ve read so many positive reviews about its products. Of course, being caught up with the extraordinary student life that I have, I completely forgot about that brand. This month, Glambox teamed up with Bliss by gathering a few of the their staple products in a pink box.

A week or two ago, I attended a cute little Glambox x Bliss event presenting the products in the box. I know, I’m a bit late with this post and the image quality isn’t fantastic. But hey, at least I got the chance to try out the products properly. So without further ado, here are my first impressions:

1. Body Butter in blood orange + white pepper – lets talk about that scent.. The only thing I like about orange is the colour, the juice and the actual fruit. I’m not a huge fan of its scent though. However, it blends pretty well with the white pepper and it’s not that overpowering. Thank God, no headaches – I have enough of those everyday. The body butter itself is, well, buttery and thick as expected. It does a good a job at moisturising. Is it extra special? No. Would I buy it? No.

2. Fabulous Foaming Wash – this is a 2 in 1 cleanser and exfoliator. My mum and I have been using this every day. We managed to finish half of the bottle, already. So yes, we liked it! I’ve never used such a cleanser before. You have to start my massaging it into damp skin so that it creates some sort of foam. After that, you rinse everything off. Now the foam isn’t very foamy and it’s not that exfoliating. But it’s still a great and gentle cleanser. Would I buy it? Yes.

3. Triple oxygen instant energizing mask – I see they keep their names very basic at Bliss.. Another unusual product, for me. You massage the face mask into your skin and it’ll create a layer of foam that you keep for 5 minutes. The foam starts to slowly disappear. Magic! You then rinse it off. Now I’m not sure what this does exactly – because I wasn’t curious enough to check it out. Please excuse my ignorance. But it definitely makes my skin look and feel better, I’m not sure how or why. Would I buy this? Maybe.

4. Blood orange + white pepper Soapy Suds – this can be used either as a body wash or you can pop it in your bath to have a bit of bubbles. It smells absolutely amazing! Although I said I hate orangey scents, quite like them in shower gels. It leaves you feeling so fresh after the shower! The only problem is the lack of lather. Indeed, it is very important for me to be able to do fake Santa beards with lather. Unfortunately, this has not passed the test. Would I buy it? Probably not.

5. Triple oxygen +c energizing cream – along with the cleanser, I’ve been using this everyday, morning and evening. It’s so light but moisturising enough. The vitamin C in it boosts my energy in the morning. I must add that I have zero energy in the morning. I sometimes look like a walking zombie. Again, it has an orange scent to it because of the vitamin C that makes me go meh. Regardless of that, it’s still a nice product to use. Would I buy it? Yes.

6. That’s incredi-peel! – waw. This is by far the standing out elements of the whole box. What’s not to love about it? First of all, how original is that name? Secondly, the result. Holy mother of facial peels. I didn’t expect to see a result right after using it. It’s basically a pad with acid on it that you apply after cleansing and you continue with toner and moisturiser. There were two samples of this in the box. I used them two days in a row and immediately saw a difference: radiant healthy soft skin. Would I but it? Definitely yes.

I’m glad that I got to try out Bliss products via Glambox. I got the time to decide whether I like them or not before purchasing them – the whole point of that pink box. The Glambox team was kind enough to give me a 20% off discount code on future subscriptions for The Beauty Residence readers: GlamTBR. This code will be valid for about a month/a month and half from now. You can click here to subscribe to Glambox.

I hope you’re having a lovely morning/afternoon/evening depending on when you’re reading this 🙂

Skincare : Neutrogena’s Visibly Clear Gentle Exfoliating Wash

February 23, 2014

There is some sort of universal tradition that consists of getting your first facial wash from Neutrogena. Name me one teenager that never used this brand before. See? No answer. When I was younger, my first skincare product was Neutrogena’s Oil Free Acne Wash. In this post, I’m going to talk about another famous cleanser of theirs: Visibly Clear Gentle Exfoliating Wash.

Indeed, most of us used this when we were younger. But what is really interesting is that it has another effect on me now than it did back then when I had severe acne. Anyways, I’ve been using this for over a month now and I’m kind of hooked to it.

It’s a very gentle exfoliator and cleanser so you’re not damaging your skin unless you’re really heavy handed. The reason why I love this the most is because you don’t need to exfoliate with a different product afterwards as it contains blue microbeads. Holler to all the lazy people! It is designed to deep clean and clear out pores. Now, I do feel like my face is really clean after using it. But I’m not so sure it is the best at deep cleaning as it is quite gentle.

I use this in the morning and/or at night. The best time to use it is after a post-workout shower. You come out of your bathroom feeling so fresh, young and polished – not that I’m very old. Lately, I’ve been changing my skincare routine a lot – simply because I have no routine, at the moment. However, I keep on going back to this product.

Which cleanser/exfoliator are you using now? Have any of you tried this one?

Beauty tips : Keeping your lips soft and smooth

July 26, 2013

One thing that I absolutely can’t stand is dry and chapped lips because a) you end up bitting them off, and b) lipstick doesn’t look good on with chapped lips. There are a few products out there that do the perfect job to keep my lips soft and smooth. With these two simple steps, you’ll have smooth kissable lips this summer!

Step 1

An all-time favorite lip scrub of mine is the Bubblegum sugar lip scrub by Lush. I love the fact that it’s sweet and edible. It removes every bit of dead skin on the lips and leaves your lips so smooth. Best part is that you can eat it afterwards! I really like eating it and I know a lot of people who do the same. I guess I’m not so weird, after all. I like exfoliating my lips 3 to 4 times per week.

Step 2

Another Lush product that I’ve been introduced to recently is the Whip Stick lip balm, a chocolate orange balm . I normally don’t like chocolate flavored beauty products. But this one hasn’t got the overpowering flavor and scent to it that gives you a headache by the end of the day. This product leaves the lips with a really soft feel to them. I’m still madly in love with my Beesline lip care which stays in my handbag (which is why it isn’t photographed). But I believe I have started a new relationship with the Lush balm. I use lip balm right after exfoliating my lips and everyday, specially before sleeping.

As you may have noticed, Lush Cosmetics are pretty amazing when it comes to lip care. I definitely recommend both Lush products if you’re having a hard time finding good lip products.

How do you like keeping your lips soft? Have you tried these products? Thoughts?

Beauty tips : How to prep your skin before a special occasion

July 23, 2013

Waking up late, staying up until late hours, sunbathing and other summer habits make us forget about maintaing our skin in a good condition. I know that every time summer is here, I tend to forget about my skincare routine and end up with really bad skin. At that time of the year, you always want to look your best. You never know when you’ll have a party, dinner, family gatherings or other special occasions. Here are a few steps to follow a day before your event.

Now, first thing you need to know is that foundation and concealer won’t cover up much if they’re not applied to a good and clear canvas.

Step 1
Start by using a precleanse product like this one from Dermalogica. It will help remove any makeup left on the skin or any dirt.
Step 2
Cleanse your face with your favorite cleanser. I’ve been using Dermalogica’s Special Cleansing Gel at the moment. Careful, don’t go for anything too drying.
Step 3
Exfoliate your skin by massaging it in gentle circular motions. Dermalogica’s Skin Prep Scrub is a thick facial scrub that I absolutely love! It removes dry skin and clears out the skin perfectly. If your skin is extremely oily, go for a toner right after this step. If it’s not, skip the toner.
Step 4
Spread a good layer of moisturizer on to your face. Make sure it’s not a mattifying moisturizer.
Step 5
Apply two or three drops of argan oil onto your face. It will nourish your skin. If you don’t have argan oil, then go for a hydrating serum.
After following these 5 steps, you might look a bit red because of the exfoliating. But I always follow this routine before a special occasion or an event and I wake up with an almost flawless face. The fact that you do this routine at night will let your skin rest from the cleansing and exfoliating and absorb all of the good oils that you applied at the end.
I hope this was helpful and I hope it will work you as much as it works on me!

Skincare : Review of Dermalogica’s Daily Macrofoliant

May 25, 2013

My skin has been terrifying with all the breakouts that I’ve been having lately. Luckily, I got sent this amazing product by Dermalogica that blew my mind away.

The Daily Macrofoliant is a rice-based powder that you apply to wet hands to create a sort of “paste” which will very gently exfoliate your face. And when I say very gently, I really mean it. It’s a new concept to me that I’ve never tried before.

I’m the type of person who believes in immediate results and this served me well. I used it after cleansing and noticed right after drying my face that my pores got smaller, my skin got smoother and my face got clearer. Sounds impossible and surreal. Trust me, I ain’t lyin’. This stuff is magic!

After using it for a week and with a bit of Argan oil help (that I just started using), my breakout started to fade away. I normally use it at night and sometimes in the morning (if my pores are looking extremely large).
This has become a must-have on my list and an essential for my daily skincare routine. I have to admit that I don’t find a lot of effective skincare products that leave me speechless. But the Daily Macrofoliant is simply magnificent
What is your favorite exfoliator lately? Leave a comment below 🙂

Last Minute : Beauty stocking stuffers!

December 19, 2012

Like yesterday’s post from the “Last Minute” series, I thought of putting up a list of last minute beauty stocking stuffers. As I said in this post, I always leave those kind of stuff for the last minute. I’m sure what I’m about to suggest will be great help for you 😉

1. No one can get enough of Lush’s Bubble Bars. This one is made for this jolly season.

2. L’occitane’s hand cream is THE cream to have! It’s real moisturizing shizzle! This box contains 3 L’occitane hand creams.

3. Nail polishes are the best beauty stocking stuffers out there. But instead of 1 nail polish bottle, why not get 4 mini bottles of Essie’s holiday collection? Link! 🙂

4. Miniature perfumes or roller balls like these from Ralph Lauren!

5. Another great stocking stuffer that we see every year: candles. Bath & Body Works have amazing festive holiday scented candles with cute names like “Tis the season“. You can check out here other stocking stuffers ideas from Bath & Body Works.

6. Miniature skincare products from Philosophy! Come on, how cute are these things??

I wish my stocking included all of these products.

Hope it was helpful. Merry christmas 🙂

Skincare : Review of Gentle Cleansing Wipes by Nivea

August 30, 2012

To me, removing my makeup is the most challenging step in my skincare routine. I need to find the perfect products that will help me clean my face easily without rubbing my skin really hard.
While I wasn’t in Dubai, I needed makeup removing wipes and the drugstore I went to didn’t have my beloved Neutrogena makeup removing wipes. Hence, I got the Gentle Cleansing wipes by Nivea for dry to sensitive skin.

It says that it “cleanses gently and pampers the skin. It also removes make-up and waterproof mascara for wonderful velvety skin.” And it is made out of natural almond oil and calendula extract.

Now, I don’t know if it’s because of the pack of wipes or the wipes themselves but the first one I used on my skin was pretty dry. Bad first impression…

The second one I used was a bit more moist and it was very gentle and moisturizing. So this promise was kept, no doubt about that.

However, it was too gentle that it hardly removed any makeup! It took me literally 10 minutes to remove normal mascara (not waterproof!). Plus, I had to rub a bit hard to get it off so all of my lashes started to fall out. I got so mad!

In the pack you get 25 wipes. Here’s a picture to show you a wipe size compared to a 15 eyeshadow MAC palette.

“Disappointment” describes the product perfectly. I would only recommend it if you enjoy cleansing and toning your face with wipes. But do not try to remove you makeup with it.

What makeup removing wipes disappointed you in the past? Write a comment telling me which ones to avoid. I don’t want to loose all of my lashes!

Skincare : Review of Lip Care by Beesline

August 26, 2012

I have found my new love! I’ve been using this product all summer long and been wanting to do a review about it. But I just couldn’t find the right time. But now that I’m back in Dubai, I’ve got all the time I need.

So the review is about a lip balm by Beesline. Ever heard of that brand before? … Maybe not.

You’ve probably already seen the picture of this lip balm on Twitter, I’ve posted it a while ago.

Here’s a bit about this Lebanese brand: it started out in 1993 with a university student that mixed creams for his mother with the help of his sister. The first product that was launched was this one, the Lip Care lip balm and it had a huge success. And ever since, they came up with skincare products from head to toe. All of the products are paraben, silicone and paraffin free. And they are never tested on animals!

The packaging of the product is fine. It doesn’t bother me at all. It actually looks a bit cool, but it’s noting special.

Lets move on to more serious stuff, shall we?

The product itself is amazing. It looks yellow but obviously doesn’t show up that way. It shows up clear. It hasn’t got any scent to it and it’s made out of natural ingredient! It’s made out of beeswax obviously, carrot oil, wheat germ oil, carnauba wax and nigella oil. Now you may not know this, but beeswax is excellent for the skin, it improves its condition.
It glides on so smoothly. And it is not creamy and thick, which surprised me. In a good way, of course! It actually leaves just a thin layer of the product, just the perfect amount of lip balm you need. And it is extremely moisturizing!

You get 0.6oz/4.5g of product which is reasonable. However, I can’t seem to remember its price…

Overall, I love this product and I really recommend it to people with chapped lips! It is amazing! I use it everyday! I got four of them because it can only be found in Lebanon, unfortunately.

Monthly favorites : My May favorites!

June 1, 2012

Hi everyone!

It’s the 1st of June today, which means that the month of May has past. This calls for a monthly favorites!!
This is a new series of posts that I’m introducing to the blog. At the end of each month, I’ll be posting the go-to items that I’ve loved and used. It includes makeup, skincare, haircare, clothes, shoes, accessories… I’ll do a quick review of every product to not make this post super long and boring!

This month I have a lot of Sigma favs and MAC favs!

I’m going to start off with skincare. I’ve been using this for while now and I’m almost out of it!! It’s the Sebium Mat by Bioderma.

They call it “anti-shine fluid”, I call it “miracle worker”! It moisturizes your face and matifies it. Now that summer is here in Dubai, my T-zone is becoming oilier. With a normal moisturizer, my skin tends to look shiny throughout the day. With this, my skin isn’t completely matte as it promises, but it has this perfect glow for summer. Now, if you have dry skin I wouldn’t recommend Sebium Mat for you. However, if you have combination or oily skin you might like it! It’s really awesome!
Moving on to makeup base! I’m really enjoying the Studio Fix Fluid by MAC.
This foundation has a matte finish and SPF 15 (the SPF you need daily) with medium to full coverage. I still haven’t found the perfect way to apply it, but when I do I’ll do a foundation routine. I like that it’s a very light-weight foundation although it has a medium to full coverage. Most foundations with as much coverage are quite heavy. When I wear this foundation, I don’t feel like I have any makeup on! It holds up up to eight hours (tried and tested!) but it isn’t waterproof. What I don’t like about it is that it has a really bad smell and that you have to buy the pump separately, but I don’t mind. Again, I don’t recommend this for people with dry skin.

On to concealer! I loved the Studio Finish Concealer by MAC.

This concealer is really strong! It has full coverage, it’s long-wearing, it’s smooth, it’s water-resistant, it has SPF 35. What’s better than that?! Plus, it’s great for all skin types! I like using it for my dark circles as well as my face where I have blemishes or breakouts.

I like applying it with the P80 Precision flat brush by Sigma.

This brush is great for concealer and for hiding unwanted blemishes! It gives a flawless finish. I really like it! I also like applying liquid highlighter onto my cheekbones with it.

For my eyes, I’m really loving the Sigma eyeshadows! I have used one in particular in the Bare palette.

Now, this isn’t the Bare palette. If you’re familiar with Sigma, you may know that they send you a free gift if you spend $30 or more (so cool!!). This sample palette was the free gift sent to me when I purchased my brushes. It contains three samples of an eyeshadow of each palette they’ve got (Bare, Flare and Dare).
Lately, I’ve been applying just one eyeshadow color all over the lid to go to school. I’ve been using this color in the middle, “Act” from the Bare palette. I love it! It’s a bronzy color that is wearable everywhere you go! I like the colors that came in the sample palette, but not for everyday. You can find the three palettes by clicking here
Now that we’re in the eyeshadow talk, the perfect eyeshadow brush is the E55 Eye shading brush by Sigma.
This brush is great for patting a color all over your lid and up to your crease! It’s my go-to eyeshadow brush! It’s also amazing for highlighting your brow bone!
The next eye product is an eyeliner! It’s the Inglot Soft precision eyeliner in the shade 32.

Built up; with one stroke

It goes on smoothly onto the skin, it has a flex of shimmer to it and it’s quite pigmented. When I apply over my upper lash line, people think that it’s blue eyeshadow, lol! I like it on my lower waterline. I think that it looks less harsh than plain black eyeliner.
My favorite blush is definitely Pinch O’ Peach by MAC.

Not blended; Blended

In the pot it looks scary, once it’s on your face it looks gorgeous! This is a peach/pink blush with a sheertone finish. It’s suits literally every skin tone! It’s great for spring and summer. It gives natural pink cheeks.
Last but not least, the brush I like using with this blush is the F50 Duo fibre brush by Sigma.
I know, I know, I’m a Sigma freak! This brush is a multi-purpose brush! Very handy it you’re a beginner! You can use it for foundation, blush, bronzer and highlighter! It gives an airbrushed finish. You can use it with powder or liquid products. Love it!
You can now get 10% off your Sigma purchase! Use this coupon code STAR2012! Hurry up, the offer is valid until the 30th of June! Click here to enjoy your shopping! Spend more than $30 and get a free mini E25 blending brush!

Skincare : Review of Purity by Philosophy

May 20, 2012
Hello lovelies! How was your week-end?
Today I’m reviewing this product called Purity by Philosophy. I bought the 8 oz bottle to try it out because I’ve heard great things about it.

Philosophy is a skincare brand suitable for all skin type and specially for sensitive skin.
Now if you already know me, you might know that I used to have sever acne. But now I’m under doctor’s subscription and I’m taking these pills called Roaccutane. It’s been four months and my acne is already gone, I still have two more months to go! Yeppi! (happy jump!). Now I have normal to combination skin in summer and normal to dry skin in winter. Before the treatment I used to have really oily skin trough out the year, and I used to use a face cleanser by Bioderma called Sebium. It worked like a charm when I had oily skin. But when I used it during my treatment (which tends to dry my face), my face got so dry that it hurt. Plus, this treatment made not only my skin, but my whole body as well sensitive. So I have to be extra careful with what I use on my face, what I eat, bla bla bla… But that’s not the point.
The point is, I bought this new face cleanser that I’m reviewing today. I love that it’s more than that! It’s a cleanser, a makeup remover and a toner! (+++) How awesome??! I was on a hunt for the perfect toner, I was relieved that it was included in this product.
It was really weird to use it as it doesn’t foam once you start rubbing it on your face.
After using it, I felt that my face was stretched as it would be after I wash it normally, but it wasn’t to stretched to the point of being dry.
I tried to remove makeup with it. To be honest, it removes your makeup in a rather strange way. It kind of melts it. Weird, I know. But it wipes of foundation really well, it removes mascara as well as waterproof makeup. If you have a lot of makeup on, I probably wouldn’t recommend using this product.
In Dubai, a bottle of 8 oz costs AED95, however in the USA (according to the philosophy official web page – linked down bellow) the same bottle is worth $20, which is nearly AED74.
Needless to say, I love this product even though I’ve used it only for three days! I’ve noticed a lot of changes, specially on my T-zone where my pores are quite large. I’m 100% sure that I’ll be repurchasing it after I go through my first bottle.
I use this product in the morning and at night and I’m really enjoying it!
Two thumbs up for Purity! I’m already convinced that Philosophy is a great brand! I might go back and purchase their exfoliator (I can’t remember its name), the lady at the counter told me that it’s also amazing stuff!
P.S: I love the fact that put a little philosophical text at the front. It sounds so deep! :’)
This product can be found here and at Sephora in Dubai, UAE.

What is you favorite cleanser at the moment? Tell me it comments bellow!
