The Skincare Routine

October 11, 2014

The amount of fancy beauty potions can sometimes be overwhelming. I never know what to pick up from the skincare department without guidance. I’m still learning, don’t judge. Also, the weather I went through since August was no help to my skin at all. Point is, my skin was terrible and I found a good skincare routine.

I’m following the classic cleanse/exfoliate/moisturize routine. I found that it works best with my skin. Although I have combination to oily skin, I’m leaving out the toner at the moment. I’m in Beirut now, not Dubai, there actually is the fall season. Toning my face is giving me dry patches around my mouth. So we’re ditching that.

Clarins Daily Energizer Cleansing Gel
This was a recommendation and I’ve been using it for about a week. I love gel cleansers. I think they’re the best at removing what ever is still hiding in your pores. This has a kind of a creamy feel to it which makes gentle. I found that it dries my skin to a lovely matte and velvety finish whereas other cleansers, well, they just cleanse. Err.. Duh. So far, I think this product is simple yet effective.

Mini Luna by Foreo
I’ve already mention this little interesting machine here but it deserve ten more mentions. Foreo came out with this genius concept: a rubber device that helps you deep clean your face. It’s more gentle than the Clarisonic (which I’ve never tried). I absolutely love my Mini Luna. I honestly don’t know how I’ve lived without this my whole life.

Lush Ocean Salt face and body scrub
Another relatively new product for me. It’s a chunky exfoliator that works great for face and body. It removes almost all the dry skin leaving your skin really smooth. Unlike other scrubs, I didn’t feel that it’s firming or that it tightens the skin. Weird.. I use this 2 to 3 times per week. It also contains vodka. Turn up!

Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub
If I’m not using the Lush scrub then I’m probably using the Dermalogica one. This is amazing. I’m serious. It can be used on daily basis and it transforms your skin into the perfect canvas. I always go back to this scrub. We’re taking this on HG level people!

Bioderma Sebium Hydra moisturizer
This is the only moisturizer I use. Sad but true. Every time I try to go wild and get a new, I tend to go back to Bioderma. It never fails. Let’s just say it gets the job done pretty well. I couldn’t recommend this enough for people with acne or breakout.

What skincare products have you been using at the moment? Any recommendations?

Skincare : Dealing with sick skin

March 27, 2014

I’ve been sick during this whole week and I’m so surprised by how much an illness can affect your skin. Other than popping pills, drinking hot tea and vitamin C, skin needs 3 times the maintenance that it usually gets. I’ve gathered all the products that I can find in my bathroom to look and feel normal again.

I don’t get sick really often, so it was a bit of a shock to see my skin in this dreadful state. I dug out everything containing vitamin C to boost my energy back up and moisturising products to battle against the dryness, especially the areas around the chin and the cheekbones.

After cleansing my face, I used the Philosophy Microdelivery Peel. I found this a while ago in my mother’s bathroom. I can’t believe the results that it gives! Amazing. It’s done in two easy steps. I chose to use this a) to feel fresh and b) because it contains vitamin C. Why haven’t I used this before? I love it! But more on that another time.

Next are two masks. Yes. I used two masks. This is how bad my skin is. Lisa Eldridge said it was okay to do so. Anyways, I can’t quite remember which one I used first but it doesn’t matter really.. Dermalogica’s Skin Hydrating Mask was thickly layered all over the face for a good dose of moisture. As for the Tripe Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask by Bliss, well, it did what the name says it does. Unfortunately, I only have a sample of that and I’ve used the very last drop of it. I might go buy a full sized one. It’s a really nice mask and gives a lot of radiance.

Lastly, I finished off with the Triple Oxygen+C Energizing Cream by Bliss, sister of the mask. Not the most moisturising cream out there. But it sure does make you feel fresh, radiant and energised. Of course, I’ve used other products like cleanser, under eye cream, lip balm, etc. But nothing very interesting or new.

That is all for today. Have a lovely Thursday and weekend!

February’s Glambox

March 1, 2014

Have you ever heard of the brand Bliss? I haven’t before it landed in Dubai about a year ago. Ever since, I’ve read so many positive reviews about its products. Of course, being caught up with the extraordinary student life that I have, I completely forgot about that brand. This month, Glambox teamed up with Bliss by gathering a few of the their staple products in a pink box.

A week or two ago, I attended a cute little Glambox x Bliss event presenting the products in the box. I know, I’m a bit late with this post and the image quality isn’t fantastic. But hey, at least I got the chance to try out the products properly. So without further ado, here are my first impressions:

1. Body Butter in blood orange + white pepper – lets talk about that scent.. The only thing I like about orange is the colour, the juice and the actual fruit. I’m not a huge fan of its scent though. However, it blends pretty well with the white pepper and it’s not that overpowering. Thank God, no headaches – I have enough of those everyday. The body butter itself is, well, buttery and thick as expected. It does a good a job at moisturising. Is it extra special? No. Would I buy it? No.

2. Fabulous Foaming Wash – this is a 2 in 1 cleanser and exfoliator. My mum and I have been using this every day. We managed to finish half of the bottle, already. So yes, we liked it! I’ve never used such a cleanser before. You have to start my massaging it into damp skin so that it creates some sort of foam. After that, you rinse everything off. Now the foam isn’t very foamy and it’s not that exfoliating. But it’s still a great and gentle cleanser. Would I buy it? Yes.

3. Triple oxygen instant energizing mask – I see they keep their names very basic at Bliss.. Another unusual product, for me. You massage the face mask into your skin and it’ll create a layer of foam that you keep for 5 minutes. The foam starts to slowly disappear. Magic! You then rinse it off. Now I’m not sure what this does exactly – because I wasn’t curious enough to check it out. Please excuse my ignorance. But it definitely makes my skin look and feel better, I’m not sure how or why. Would I buy this? Maybe.

4. Blood orange + white pepper Soapy Suds – this can be used either as a body wash or you can pop it in your bath to have a bit of bubbles. It smells absolutely amazing! Although I said I hate orangey scents, quite like them in shower gels. It leaves you feeling so fresh after the shower! The only problem is the lack of lather. Indeed, it is very important for me to be able to do fake Santa beards with lather. Unfortunately, this has not passed the test. Would I buy it? Probably not.

5. Triple oxygen +c energizing cream – along with the cleanser, I’ve been using this everyday, morning and evening. It’s so light but moisturising enough. The vitamin C in it boosts my energy in the morning. I must add that I have zero energy in the morning. I sometimes look like a walking zombie. Again, it has an orange scent to it because of the vitamin C that makes me go meh. Regardless of that, it’s still a nice product to use. Would I buy it? Yes.

6. That’s incredi-peel! – waw. This is by far the standing out elements of the whole box. What’s not to love about it? First of all, how original is that name? Secondly, the result. Holy mother of facial peels. I didn’t expect to see a result right after using it. It’s basically a pad with acid on it that you apply after cleansing and you continue with toner and moisturiser. There were two samples of this in the box. I used them two days in a row and immediately saw a difference: radiant healthy soft skin. Would I but it? Definitely yes.

I’m glad that I got to try out Bliss products via Glambox. I got the time to decide whether I like them or not before purchasing them – the whole point of that pink box. The Glambox team was kind enough to give me a 20% off discount code on future subscriptions for The Beauty Residence readers: GlamTBR. This code will be valid for about a month/a month and half from now. You can click here to subscribe to Glambox.

I hope you’re having a lovely morning/afternoon/evening depending on when you’re reading this 🙂

Have you ever tried Bliss? Recommendations?
