Winter Nail Picks

December 6, 2015

My hands and nails are my pride. They’re the only thing I truly enjoy taking care of: I can’t stand seeing chipped nail polish, and, let’s be honest, manicure sessions are sheer bliss. Now that the weather is cooler and the holidays are around the corner, we started getting a bit festive in the nails department.

NOTD : Vinylux by CND

February 2, 2015

I’ve never tried shellac, gelish, acrylic or all that jazz. I keep it very traditional when it comes to nail polish; until Vinylux happened. Continue Reading…

NOTD : French Quarter For Your Thoughts by OPI

November 5, 2014

I fell in love with gray nail polish. So what?

I always admired from afar perfectly polished gray nails but never had the guts to go for that light colour. Now that midterms are over, I finally have time to look and think about my nails. I can’t stress enough how shocking that view was! No time for salons and long hour manicures, I had to dig out something really fast: French Quarter For Your Thoughts.
A total impromptu colour by OPI. I was given this back in summer when it was still too hot for a beautiful slightly blue toned light gray. Not something that I would usually go for as these shades end up looking too blue.

Quality wise, OPI is da bomb! No surprise there. Two coats are enough for a creamy finish and full opacity. Highly recommend this great neutral for autumn and winter!

Have you ever tried this shade? Any gray polish recommendations?

Formula X Polish Review

August 29, 2014

“Do I really need Formula X polishes?” is the question I asked myself until I tried them out.

Ladies, they are freaking awesome. I’m just going to put it out there. Application is super easy and smooth, very pigmented, lasts a hell of a long time (and this is coming from a gal with chip-prone nails and that goes mad when nails are not spic ‘n span – excuse my pickiness). If I had to sum up this product in one it would be: OPI’s, Essie’s, Ciate’s and all high end brands benefits in one bottle. Y’know wha’ I’m sayin’?

Two shades caught my attention at a Sephora event: Standout and Infatuated. Standout is a peachy pinky nude with a bit of pearl. Not shimmer. Pearl. It gives more liveliness to the colour and a 3D effect without having that cheap shimmery look that looks horrendous. So gorgeous! And Infatuated is a pastel blue. However it’s not so pastel that it’s almost white. It’s more of a sky blue type of thang. Another beautiful colour.
Formula X, we’ll meet again.
Also don’t forget to enter my current giveaway here, it’s ending soon!
Have any of you tried these? Yay or nay?

Making my way through summer #2 – OPI Kiss me I’m Brazilian

July 10, 2014

Summer without summer nails? No such thing. As much as I adore french manicures, reds, soft pinks whites or nudes, I love getting out of my comfort zone with nail colours. This season, we’re seeing a lot of Brazil themed collections like the OPI one. Kiss me I’m Brazilian is officially my summer nails.

Now, I wish I were Brazilian. I’m convinced that I was in my past life. The beach, the dancing, the music, the boys, the tan, the bikinis, the looks. Love it all. Want it all. Speaking of which, can we take a moment to discuss what happened in that Germany-Brazil match? Unacceptable I say. Brazil totally deserved to be winners in their hometown, until the Germans attacked.

Anyway, this nail colour is a bold one. It’s a very opaque pink that would compliment tanned hands very well. Nevertheless, I think it would look as great on lighter skin tones. Two coats of that before topping it off with the UNE top coat. And voila! Summer nails.

With all the nail collections that came out this summer, I find that OPI truly has the best one so far. I feel that the Essie summer collection is deja vu, a bit bleh and childish looking to my liking. Although the OPI Brazil colours aren’t anything new, they remain more bright and lively with very original names. I’d enjoy staying hours contemplating these colours on my nails. Or not.. You can check out the full collection and swatches here.

That is all for today. How are you guys liking the “Making my way through summer” series so far? I’d love to know what you think. So please let me know in the comments below.

What is your summer nail colour?

June Haul

June 24, 2014

So I’ve been hauling during the whole month and loving it. Zero guilt. I was planning on going wild at beauty stores to celebrate my birthday, the end of my exams and the end of high school. The damage was done progressively.

I haven’t been buying a lot of makeup for myself during the year. I’m just going to put it out there. A whole lot of reasons kept me away from spending my money on goodies like these: a) exams and school work kept me away from everything, b) I didn’t have any time on my hands or enough skin to try out new products and c) I would walk out of Sephora or Boots empty handed due to a lack of inspiration. There – I said it.

A lot of events happened during this month. My desk is filled with new products to try! Part of these events was Beauty World Middle East, the biggest beauty trade show in the region. I couldn’t bear the thought of missing out on it again. They basically present a lot of new brands on the market. I also saw well-known brands such as OPI, Orly, Dermalogica, etc. All of this rambling to say that I finally got the Seche Vite top coat! I’m so excited for probably the most boring product of this post. I have tried this already in different salons that use it as the top coat: amazing stuff.

I then payed a visit to MAC. It’s funny how I was so into MAC products a year or two ago. But now, it just got boring. Am I the only one who feels this way about the brand and its products? They have cool collaborations with celebrities and amazing collections. But the good stuff get sold out before hitting shelves. Don’t get me wrong, they do have great products that are part of my top favourites. Anyway, this visit was only for necessities. I had to get another Lingering eyebrow pencil and a brush cleanser. Okay, I lied. The brush cleanser is the most boring product of this haul.

Moving on to the fun stuff. I was craving a new bronzer and debating whether I should get the Marc Jacobs’ one which is pretty luxurious or the Clarins one that they release every year with their summer collection. My heart was telling me to go for the Summer Bronzing Compact from the Clarins Colours of Brazil collection (which was more expensive than the MJ bronzer). I could hear it call my name. The number of positive reviews this product got is cray! But more on that another time.

Last but not least are the last two purchases of the month: the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation and the Translucent pressed setting powder. Believe it or not, none of my foundations match my skin perfectly. They’re either too light or too pink. Since my prom/graduation is coming, I rushed to Laura Mercier to get these two babies. I had my eye on them for so long. I initially wanted to get the loose version of the powder. But pressed powder is way more convenient and user friendly for me.

If you’re still reading this post that consists mostly of my boring life, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Have a great Tuesday!

What did you buy this month? Inspire me!

Beauty Speed Review #1

April 29, 2014

Product reviews? FOTD? NOTD? I have a lot of stuff to show you that I don’t even know what to blog about first and how to blog about it. And seeing how much stuff I have to get done, this poor blog might be left behind. Simone came up with a new concept that is absolutely genius: speed reviews.

I do love small and quick posts that give you just the information you need, especially when it comes to products reviews. Speed reviews are exactly what they claim to be: short and sweet.
Bourjois nail polishes – part of the Do you speak French manicure? collection are the shades God save the green – an intense emerald, and I like to mauve it – textured purple with gold tints. First colour can be pulled off with one coat. The second colour, not so much. These polishes are from the 1 second line: the brush is designed to make application easier. Love the emerald shade!
OPI nail polishes – a press release didn’t come with these, but I’m guessing they’re from the Easter collection. First shade is A grape fit! which is a creamy grape colour. Second one is From A to Z-urich, a dark raspberry red.
Benefit Big Easy BB cream – definitely not what a typical BB cream would look like. A lightweight liquid to powder formula that controls oil, balances skin and protects with SPF 35 and PA +++. What I realised is that it’s quite light when applied at first, then it matches the skin tone perfectly. So far so good. Available in May.
Benefit Porefessional Agent Zero Shine – claims to be a translucent mattifying and pore-perfecting powder. It does control oil and shine. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do a great job at minimizing pores. However, it’s a great product for the handbag as a brush in included in it (which is the bottom part that can be twisted off).
Jane Iredale Moonglow bronzer – Jane, you have done it again. So totally, deeply, madly in love with this. A super shimmery golden bronzer that has two highlighting shades and two bronzing shades. The final product is an instantly contoured face with highlighted cheekbones aka the perfect summer face tan. Careful though, shimmer can get all over the place. Be prepared to see this baby more often on the blog.
This post was actually really fun to write. I’ll make sure to feature less products next time (or more if you want?)
Have you tried any of these? Leave a comment with a speed review of your own 🙂

November’s Glambox

November 22, 2013

This month’s Glambox landed on my desk a couple of days ago. If you haven’t heard of Glambox before, it’s a subscription service of beauty boxes which are delivered at your door by the end of every month in the UAE. Each box includes four or five deluxe samples. So basically it’s like christmas all over again!

This November, Glambox collaborated with the beauty brand Isadora. Here’s what’s inside:

1. BB cream All in One Make-up which is a 6 in 1 multitasking foundation: base, colour, care, coverage, hydration and protection. A lightweight natural looking foundation that has SPF 12. My shade is 03 Medium. I hope it blends well with my skin tone. And it is my very first BB cream. Crazy, I know. Hashtag bad beauty blogger
2. Perfect Moisture Lipstick – a moisturising, creamy and pigmented lipstick. I got the shade Vivid Pink. Not a huge fan of blue toned pinks and fuchsias that have a shimmery/glazed finish. This colour reminds me of the lipsticks I used to get with my toys when I was younger. You can have a closer look at it in the picture below. However, I’ve tried it on my lips. Oh em gee. It’s so creamy, so moisturising. Amazing for dry lips.
3. Build Up Mascara Extra Volume which is a smudge proof mascara that gives volume, fullness and definition to the lashes.
4. Wonder Nail Polish in the shade Summer Red. A gorgeous orange toned red that really reminds me of summer.
5. Dynamic Lash Growth Serum/Mascara which increases the lash length by 20% after 30 days of application. I’m quite happy that I got this as my lashes are being rebellious lately. They’re a mess..
Isadora is a brand that I’ve never heard of before. This subscription is the perfect opportunity to get to know a new brand and trying out new products that you would’ve never picked up. And what is really interesting is that Isadora products are a mix of makeup and skincare. I’m definitely going to check out more of these lipsticks.
Isadora is available at Boots.
